Thank you Ell, I think so too. It's turning out, based on the active people in the forums who care to help out, that females make up around 30% of this game's fan base. That is quite a bit more than I would have thought.
Keep in mind most men stay away from people with clipboards.
It's also worth keeping in mind that some women don't like to openly admit their gender in gaming communities because they risk getting harassed over it - a sad state of affairs, but unfortunately true.

Also (and not implying that this applies to any self-identified females on this thread or forum), for a variety of reasons, many females on the internet, aren't.

Sometimes, a male will pose as a female to curry favor... Or whatever. =0[.]o=

Yeah I'd want to somehow refine any attempted data in form of a demographic of females with like, a 80% pre-assumed fakers filter.

So, if 100 "women" say they are females on the internet, I assume 20/100 really are. And of course, as Mark said; identifying yourself as such is as good as putting a huge sign over your head titled "Every lonely nerd's personal consultant".

I thought about asking people to be honest on the original post, but I assumed that would invite more dishonestly. But yes, statistically, many people who identify themselves as female on the internet are, in fact, male. I tried to adjust for this with my around 30% guesstimate. You have to keep in mind that the world population is actually swinging towards more females than males, so it would make sense that more and more females are accessing the internet. And if China had not instituted the one child policy and the girl babies were allowed to live more often, there would be substantially more females in the world.
Male here

What if girls are posing as guys?

Maybe I'm a female -checks-....nope definitely male.
Definitely off topic thread... but

Male
Male...

And guys didnt u know, on the internet.. men are men, woman are men and children are FBI agents (which could possibly be female though)

I've had some personal experience of this. Met couple females in real life that actually played male characters in WoW :)
I'd argue that on the net, your gender is most comparable to your personality as opposed to your physical gender, which has no meaning online.

I treat everyone the same, female or male, till proven otherwise. I have never asked anyone their gender in-game. I have played many games where I have seen female characters harassed. It is indeed a sad world we live in.
