Is Vagan getting ridiculous now??

Some of his build/gear was posted in one of HarukaTeno's linked threads (the one that notes his hostile responses). His gear includes a 6 linked Shavs, a Voll's Devotion, a Thief's Torment, and an Alpha's Howl. Kind of hard to imagine a low life build not having enough DPS to do level 7 Vagan missions.

he's a DPS check.
if you have enough DPS and/or Puncture (yay Build Diversity) - you can bring him down despite his seemingly-endless potion spam.
if you don't - you can't and might as well skip him completely.
it's dumb really. and adding an occasional time limit over that, is even dumber.

didn't get him to level 7 (or ever will), and didn't take him on in a 77 map (because I can't solo these yet) - but I wouldn't be surprised if he also hits like a damn truck there.

Vagan is probably the worst Master out there in terms of mission design.
cheap as hell, and little more than the dumbest possible form of OP-gear/build check.

but I guess nothing would convince some of the usual trolls showing up in here.
the guys who automatically go "hurr durr L2P" or "show us build so we can make fun of you" to every semi-legitimate complaint.

the OP's awesome gear has little to do with the fact Vagan is a boolean encounter.

I hit him. dodge him and his friends. hit him again. do tactical moves like hit&run, outflanking, traps, decoys...
time's up. Vagan still alive. bastard used a potion every single time I had him on the ropes.
mission failed.

that's the problem.

after the "nerf", he likely won't kill you until he gains ridiculous damage boosts from being level 7 and/or in a high map - but he will damn sure outlast you if you don't have the DPS.
and if you do have the DPS or some Puncture-type "cheese skill", you can pretty much 1-shot him and call it a day.

To be fair how much dps do people think they need to beat vagan.

Because it isn't low-life shav level.

Also jonny, a mechanic were you need a certain level of dps to surpass is pretty basic in an arpg. Ariztri has the same mechanic to the extreme + more but I don't see her people calling her ridiculous.

That's like complaining you can't out dps regen mobs that exist in the game.

It's the exact same mechanic requiring to have enough hp/resist/mitigation to not get one shotted. Skill and build lowers the threshold of each but in a gear based game there is a bare min threshold that is expected.

DPS-check *is* an integral part of ARPG, RagnarokChu.
I'm not arguing about that.

but I said it once, a thousand times, and I'll say it a million times more until all of you get the fucking picture: you cannot gear-check if you don't have gear progression!

I have a new rising-star character in Standard.
Burning Discharge Templar. steam-rolls through all maps up to level 70, and he's just 74.
gear 90% self-bought at the black-market you call "economy", 10% from stash after an accumulated time of over 1.5k hours in game.
build almost completely copied off Pohx. a few minor tweaks.
hella fun to play.
fucking impossible to achieve in an actual play-though of the game because fuck RNG.
fuck RNG says: you better trade, or have a Searing Touch already in your stash.
and if fuck RNG was somewhat manageable at early to mid game - end game is where your gear comes to a complete halt, while gear-checks keep piling up.

Summary: don't have a problem with gear/DPS-checks as a standalone concept.
have a huge problem with gear/DPS-checks when the game provides no skill-based way to get said gear.
Vagan the Health Flask Master? he's an avatar of this BS design. you either kill him in a second with "Exalt Smash", or you can't kill him at all, before the timer runs out.

I am NOT a low life build, and as such I am not dying to Vagan, but it is difficult to get close enough to him with that Cleave he does to even hit him....
For the record, my dps is 16k right now, and it has been sufficient for most things I encounter, but falls flat when they have minions like Vagan does, especially since his minions hit like TRUCKS, and throw fire traps all over the room!!
