How is GGG going to stop D2JSP and similar scum?
|
The only reason I(yes I lobbied for it and got it approved to be on the sitea) had a sub-forum put up on d2jsp is so I could try and get more people to play the game.
If and GGG guys would ask for me to have it removed and what not I would have no problem asking the owner of d2jsp to have it removed. But I honestly see it as no issue to GGG as it is getting more people involved. Which I say I've gotten at least 500 people to sign up for the game. /e btw i told chris what i was doing back in early october. and he seemed just fine with it. "... which would make the penalty unfair in some cases. Suppose you have a heavy penalty for, say, violent felonies. While life incarceration may be fair for serial killing, it would be grossly unreasonable for a traffic citation. The trouble is telling the difference between the innocent and the speeders and the burglars and the murderers. |

At this point, I would say anyone who trades for an obvious dupe in D2 — say, any rune over Gul — is not that innocent, and at the very least deserves to lose the item. In an ideal world, the person who traded it to him would lose whatever he got out of it (including any legit items he still had, or any legit items he'd traded those items for, etc.); obviously, that's unlikely, but so long as we're talking hypotheticals, I would consider that quite fair.
Because in D2, the dupes are well-known. If you don't know that Jah is duped, it's because you don't want to know and are pretending it isn't. It doesn't take much to realize that it is — the drop rates versus the supply of Jahs indicate that more than 99% of Jahs on the Realms are dupes. Dupes created, I'll remind you, by JSP members, to use JSP to make money off the game. They are damaging Blizzard's servers and ruining the game's economy, all thanks to JSP. If you have a dupe, you should lose it, period. If you create a dupe, you should lose your entire account, period. Cheating ruins the game. Cheaters should lose everything and have to start over. |

It should be noted with the online server-client architecture duping isn't possible because each item is individually tracked and accounted for by the server. Basically you would have to hack GGG's servers to dupe an item and at that point it becomes a federal crime that can be prosecuted in the US (where the servers are located).
Of course items will be farmed and sold. That's impossible to stop. Since every item is tracked and its history recorded from creation to destruction it doesn't take much effort in terms of passive analytics to see how and where large quantities of items are moving. Once you've made a decision it only takes a push of a button to instantly delete thousands of accounts and items, ban IPs, etc. I think people need to remember that D2 is ten years old. It came out at a time when internet multiplayer was just starting to go mainstream. The core architecture of the game was just not designed with security in mind. Obviously ten years later we can look back and fault Blizzard but I think that's a little unfair. Online gaming is a completely different world than it was back then. Forum Sheriff

The question remains why anybody trading on jsp should be punished for doing so. The site is not selling any items, and 95% of the users there never spent a penny for the currency. I doubt that GGG will be enforcing trading on the official forums only, otherwise your stuff gets deleted.
Disregard witches, aquire currency.

It's perfectly fine to trade PoE items for PoE items within the same league. The issues arise when you trade PoE items for items in other leagues, or even items in other games. This is what D2JSP allows with the FG system. If people just want to trade items, they can do so on the official forums.
The fact that you can buy FG with money or with other good/services means that you can purchase usable, game-affecting items for PoE. This is why it shouldn't be allowed. I'd rather see GGG sell items than allow other people to sell them. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

Why are you assuming that GGG would prohibit cross-league trading in their forums? It is perfectly normal.
"Offer softcore, need hardcore" are normal trades even in D2 trading forums that don't use a currency like fg. If GGG prohibits it here, it will take place on other sites anyway, thus leaving GGG with even less control. Disregard witches, aquire currency.

" You assume there are no bugs or glitches that can be exploited, which is not always a reasonable assumption. Moreover, even if there aren't, the servers will be attacked by those attempting to find or produce such a glitch (since most such dupes involve abusing lag and latency, attempts will be made to increase it). " That sounds promising. " Oh, I certainly agree here, but I'm commenting on what GGG is going to do, ten years later, to do it differently and prevent the destruction of PoE the way D2's been destroyed. " Because it ruins the game. Again, those caught doing this should lose both items. The economy is an important part of the game. The economy is predicated on the rules of the league within which the items are found. You aren't allowed to trade cross-leagues in-game for these very reasons. Circumventing this on any large scale will ruin the game. Part of the challenge of Hardcore is that you have to do it without all the uber items. " Could you please quote the official GGG post where they said that? Disregard witches, aquire currency.

hmm... couldn't GGG make a report button, have the report button have a question attatched to it asking for what reason are u sending a report, then have a warning system and/or a number system that will ban the player based on the amount of reports received? i mean as long as a majority of the league/server reports the person then he will be autobanned... i mean in wow as soon as i see a goldfarmer/itemseller bot i auto report... perhaps having a majority report and or 30% population report system will make autobans possible.
The only rule to this system would be that the the person has to be reported for the same thing by everyone. the report could look like this Report (button) Scrolls down, Select a choice for report: Item/currency selling player harrasment, Troll. PoE Caster hopeful!
