Unset Rings should have their own Affixes.
" The socket is useful. With a 2hander you might be running a 6L attack on your weapon and your chest, and then helment auras, boots Cast on Damage taken, and gloves leap slam, ... and quickly you start filling every slot, but maybe an extra curse or etc could sit in the socket. But the socket rings could be more exciting to everyone if the affix pool increased. Last edited by DragonsProphecy#4593 on Sep 26, 2014, 10:06:21 AM

" I do agree that they'd be more interesting, but that's just more ring mods that you'll lose. For a good ring, you require the following mods, generally: Life Mana regeneration Res 1 Res 2 Res 3 That leaves one mod for the ring, and that is always something like WED to help your build. Seeing how the implicit doesn't give any res or life, they'll want more defensive mods over some +gem mod. Voideye is +5 levels to the socket, and that is only useful for very specific builds. I don't see how using a mod that can give 30% WED will be more valuable than +1 to the one socket the unset ring has. |

" Effectively we're talking about having a 4L - 6L on a single socket. This would be interesting if some powerful unique had no sockets... such as a new weapon, or the obvious Kaom's Heart. Yes, such a ring would complete with other good rings, and mean that you'd need more resists and etc on other slots to compensate. |

" Whoa, whoa, whoa, 4l-6l on an unset ring? Dafuq page are you on? |

" If effectively the affixes were opened to those that add the effects of supports, as the original post suggests, then it's effectively a 4L if you allow it to only either the prefix or suffix pool; or technically a 7L equiv if you allow it both pools. 1 (the gem) + 3 (affix (either suffix or prefix)) = 4L equivalent 1 (the gem) + 3 (prefix) + 3 (suffix) = 7L equivalent Math is OP. " Yep this is how it would work. But, the Affixes would be generated randomly as with all items. So, yes a 7L item is completely possible, but it would be at the mercy of RNG. I appreciate all the feedback people are putting in. There is a fine line, though between OP and Interesting. |

" Okay, then, all the more reason for it to not be added. |

I understand why the guy wants more than just a defense/utility ring.
Been thinking about it too (not the affix thing). But to add something more to that ring slot than just defense (in the meaning of the ring value: i.e. fire resists, cold, etc) understanding the value as the reason why u slot it in the first place. Making it having the affixes to look for a "customization balance" according with/to your build, well, its not that the idea is crazy but, op & up. Due to, it is thinked tru, as a defense/utility slot. Got what im saying? it would be for the better for certain builds, not all. Changing it may leave a hole or unbalance the game, making players stomp the content more than already is. 2 slots, 2 rings - Remember that. If a math guy wants to speculate about possibilities (of those 2 ring slots), this is the time. -imagine having 10%-15% more X% or Y% dmg. for each ring. -etc. -etc. |
