Thirion, I would love you to show me a successful melee build, because up until then, I can say that you are talking out of your rear behind.
The only plausible solution I have seen is taunt totems, or fast summoning skele totems which really speaks for itself On another note, I would want to see a game where glass cannon melee builds are viable outside of normal difficulty, havn't heard of an ARPG crack that one. So your point is you don't want to run as melee?
PoE is supposed to be a hard game. There are counters to every skill/build. That makes it hard. Let's assume a melee could tank every mob for some time and doesn't have to run / use decoy totem. Well, then the game isn't hard anymore. And were is the fun in that? I think i am going to start to play a melee build. I hate melee because i love to play HC without much (means < 10 def points) defense (which doesn't work with melee). Last edited by Thirion#4157 on Feb 8, 2013, 7:06:21 AM

" This is complete bullcrap The game is easy mode when you run a Marauder with stun build + ground slam or if you run a templar with wand + elemental damage nodes in the tree. There are some builds which are massively stronger than other ones, especially in merciless. The point I am making, is that merciless melee is not viable, however numerous other ranged buids (as I have just mentioned) are viable. Heck, you can be silly and get a perma stun ground slam marauder with just a single 4L item (+ 3 node investment in tree) and basically solo the whole game content without risk of dying (and yes that includes bosses) I also don't think you have the credibility to comment on builds when you just yourself admitted you only play ranged builds. Melee builds are stronger, especially in normal and early stages from cruel, but after cruel act 3 the tables start tipping massively in the other direction Last edited by deteego#6606 on Feb 8, 2013, 8:00:29 AM

" By this, you mean, you should do something like have a wand templar or a ground slam marauder, or a lightning strike version of either of the previous, and not play melee, but play ranged instead? This is rather skirting the issue, bra. |

" Why? You never wrote that. " I played melee (e.g. leap slam) but its as i said not really fun for me because you get tanky, buy a good weapon and well, its kind of easy then. I played with some melees in maps, you get a good view there too. Sure there are some builds that are better overall, but melee is still viable and there are still some good and working melee builds. Tell me 2 AOE melee and 2 single target melee skills and i'll create/play a build based off that. Let's see how it works, im quite curious. Btw, even with wand templar there are some really hard enemys - if you play alone. With GS maybe not - but it lacks damage/killspeed endgame. |

" I wrote it many times..... " I said personally, the build works fine up until merciless. This isn't an issue with normal or cruel " Please mention them, I have yet to hear one that doesn't involve totems or ridiculous gear " Uh sure, Molten Shield and Sweep. 2 Single targets can be w/e you want, as long as they are melee range (glacial hammer, dual strike, heavy strike etc etc) " Damage is irrelevant when enemy mobs are permanently stunned and cannot do anything. Also the damage from ground slam is very respectable, Kripp got 2.6k DPS out of grand slam with just some basic 60 level gear (he didn't have anything fancy on main hand) Last edited by deteego#6606 on Feb 8, 2013, 9:43:57 AM

" No, i didn't mean that. I have no example with melee (because well, i don't play it that much) but a ranged one. Before CI nerf everbody told me that you can't play a shadow without CI. In a turbo race i started a HP / ES totem shadow (with just 3 defensive passives till lvl 60). I usually played with 1k HP and well, ranged chaos damage got a problem quite fast. My solution : Run around with 3 zombies (didn't take any minion passives) and hide behind them as soon as you see projectiles. My point : Don't expect in PoE to play without thinking (means, hey, i am melee, i should be able to tank everything and never die) and without adjusting your build a bit. But you can make almost everything work with some little adjustments. Ok, I'll go play a sweep mara. " Why no totems? " A way better GS player (Panda) had problems keeping his lead in lategame compared to other builds (the players behind him). |

Some of you have obviously never tried playing duelist. Melee CAN be done if you go full tank mode, but try it any other way and you are boned. I rage quit until something changes.

What will not work;
Modifying the endurance charges - Not every melee class out there can stack these. Changing the armor formula - As above, not every melee uses armor. Again, I'm going to suggest the same thing. For all classes, for all melee builds, one thing is common; using melee weapons, and attacking from melee range. Yes, you heard it from here first folks, melee requires you to have melee weapons and go into melee range! Anyway, back to the topic, my suggestion was a melee stance. You gain melee stance "buff" if you have been using melee weapons for the last 15 seconds or so, and there aren't any ranged skills/spells socketed on whatever you are wearing. Some nodes on the passive tree, or some new ones can be altered to further enhance this melee stance. If you swap to another weapon set that is not melee, or has a ranged skill/spell socketed on them, melee stance disappears. Melee stance could improve defenses, and could reduce melee damage taken for example. Use your imagination for the rest. Last edited by lyravega#6200 on Feb 8, 2013, 11:13:20 AM
