You know, this one can never get passed as a 'feature', or any kind of design decision like 'we want exiles to fight for names too'. There's nothing to defend here, it's just lack of effort on a part of the game deemed not too important.
Unfortunately, it's important to me and a lot of other players, which is why this thread exists. And I can practically guarantee that even those that aren't losing any sleep over it would prefer being able to pick any name they want to the alternative.

I'm not disagreeing with that, I just prefer GGG to be working on more important matters to me.

Some people, including myself, like unique names. This is something that I do not expect them at all to change.

Don't worry, if you picked some supercalifragilistic name, it's most likely unique and you will have almost 0 chance of ever seeing somebody using it. Devs could probably wiz in some tastefully done message on char creation 'congrats! you picked an unique name' specially for you. At this stage in the game it will probably stay unique, I think all variations of 'Dr122t D0'Ur6en' have spun out a looong time ago :)

I just want to say that i am really happy about unique names, i hope it never goes away.

I have never had any problems finding names, just be a little original. The ones i got right now, though not all of them are great, are:

Antimeda
Khaop
Crackmonster
Crackmonstress
Farmster
Farmstress
Slumcreeper
Riverjack
OrbusFarmus
Autofarmer
Funklord
FlamingDevil
Bitchrapist (Ranger ofc)
Hotandsweaty (randomscion for lvl 1 spectral)

It really isn't that hard to find something unused, some of these names i can go to any game whatsoever and they will not be taken. Just be original, keep working on your names. If names doesn't matter to you anyway, just call your main guy "thelolusaurus" or some random shit, after all you don't mind random generic names right?

Bitchrapist is kinda cliche, you know, but I suppose 'Rangingdyke' was taken.
But I like how 'Riverjack' sounds for some reason, it's fresh and catchy... maybe it's just me, I was much into fishing as a kiddo.

Bitchrapist sucks, which is why it is level 1, i just thought it was funny being a ranger and all that.

Khaop, you aint got nothing on that! At least... that is my favorite.

Sorry man, just remembered I promised once I won't make fun of PoE rare enemy name generator anymore either... but 'smellyfeet', 'hairyfetlocks' and 'putridbreath' were just... too... much.

And it's easy for us, you know, we're CB players, we got all the sweet ones like 'Khaop' taken, but what's a fresh player gonna do?

Especially OrbusFarmus is very canonical, thematic and original. It presents the best sides of PoE naming system.

The hilarious things about that name is that is comes from a way of talking shared by just me and a friend. You wouldn't get it, it's an insider thing.

Basically, it makes us rofl because it is so far out.

You see, the reason that i don't have issues finding names, be the good or bad, is that i am not a copy of anyone else, i am just me so my thoughts are unique to me.

Also, i would like to see you people post your char names, then let's see who is so high and mighty :D I even posted my crap ones.

I still think the main reason is you aren't too picky. :)

Anyway, if you're interested you can always take a look at people's profiles, not many hide them, and most certainly nobody does it because of embarrassing char names.
