What happened to the build in 2.0?

How is the build on 2.3? Update 2

Maze Preview
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk2J2Xc4l8U

This is an updated version of my Burning Arrow Marauder that i did back in Beyond League.
The skill-tree got a big overhaul in the Marauder and Templar areas in 1.3 and this build takes full advantage of it. It also takes advantage of several fairly cheap unique items, and uses them in both creative and powerful ways. Because of the new skill-tree i decided to remake him in the Bloodlines Challenge League. This is the Result.
Go to the bottom of this buildguide to find the guide i made back in Beyond.

The first thing to note about this build is that it can be one of the most affordable builds out there, and still have the power to carry parties in higher level maps. All you need is a 2 * 4L and a chin sol bow, thats it. You can even use the Deerstalker boots to level with. Gameplay of a Budget Strand run is posted below in the Gameplay section of this guide.

Seeing as Burning Prolif is so meta at the moment i decided to do this build one last time before it gets nerfed. I believe it will get nerfed because of how efficient how powerful burning prolif is, especially when you stack multipliers ( Chin Sol / Trap / Point Blank / WED ) and don’t have to worry about reflect. This combination of gems and skill-tree is absolutely insane, and it is by far the most fun i have had in this game. We also take advantage of the Avatar of fire keystone passive to reach 100% physical to fire conversion.

The addition of the Vaal Burning Arrow Skill in 1.2 and the Improved Chin Sol bow made this build finally viable. Vaal Burning Arrow is a very important part of this build, as it has the potential power to kill most map-bosses in one shot.

GEAR
The most important part of the gear on this character after Life and Resistences is base fire-damage, as this will boost our overall Prolif exponentially.
Spoiler

Carcass Jack
Using a Carcass Jack is not a necessity at all, you can chose other Unique Chests like Belly of the beast or Lightning Coil. There is also nothing wrong with using a solid Rare chest. Just make sure that getting GGBBR or GGBRR is easy on it.

Chin Sol
This is the build enabling item right here, with the 100% more bow damage at close range.

Mokou’s Embrace
Great ring for this build, gives us that last Ignite chance we need, topped with great damage and resistances

Flasks
Typical Freezing, Staunching, Adrenaline, Iron Skin and Warding.

If you are afraid of getting shocked its not a bad idea to have a quicksilver with removes shocked in your inventory.

Corrupted Rearguard (on my HC character)

Rest of the items.
Generally good life and resistences, fire and physical damage where it is possible.

Leveling items

Using this item when you are level 62 for a fast cheap 5L is a great idea, that is what i did, link to that is below in the Gameplay section.
Deerstalkers

SKILLS
Spoiler

Auras

Spoiler

Anger and Grace/Determination
These are the auras i have decided to go with, there are many different reasons for this.
Getting more aura reserved in the tree is absolutely something to consider if you want to go for it, the build is close to Sovereignty and Champion of the cause, so if you want to run Herald of ash aswell it is doable. But for my build it just isn’t needed.

Anger is the most bang for your bucks when it comes to what damage aura to use, this is because everything scales of our base Fire damage. This is important to understand, Herald of ash is not bad for damage, but it doesn’t really compare all that well with Anger.

Tooltip with Anger
Spoiler

Without Anger
Spoiler

Grace is our go to defencive aura, Grace gives us alot of armour. There is nothing more to it really. Just a really solid aura when you have Iron Reflexes in the skilltree. There is no reason Grace should be a better option than Determination however, so i would level them both and test for yourself. It should be really close. That is what i found when i played in Beyond atleast, with all the new free armour nodes in the Marauder area this might have changed.

Vaal Burning Arrow
Spoiler

Vaal Burning Arrow is in my opinion the single most broken skill-gem in the game at the moment. The fact that it is an Area of effect skill, has a damage effectiveness of 160%, has a low soul requirement to get charged, that it charges up to 3 times (synergizes perfectly with traps) and that it doesn’t need Chance to ignite makes it a crazy addition to this character.

To be honest, this is just as much a Vaal Burning Arrow character as a normal Burning Arrow character, i throw equal numbers of both traps. Thats how fast it recharges itself.

Burning Arrow
Spoiler

5L: Fire Penetration / Weapon Elemental Damage - Trap - Burning Arrow - Elemental Proliferation - Chance to ignite

We are using Chance to ignite in conjunction with the Flammability curse to get to 100% chance to ignite, this is important for consistency. This is also why we decide to grab the Resolute Technique Keystone passive in the skill-tree. We don’t need crits to do damage, we have more than enough of that already because of how we scale our damage. Dealing with accuracy however, that we cannot afford to spend passive points on. Therefore having Resolute Technique is going to make sure that we hit our targets.

Because we are starting as a Marauder and therefore getting alot of Strenght from the tree, we are grabbing Iron Grip from the skill-tree, this is not a massive boost in damage, but it gives us more base fire-damage, which is very important for our build.

Starting as a Marauder means we do not have the points to get to Clever Construction in the Shadow tree, this is regretable. But it can be easily overcome with good play and well placed/timed trap throws.

Currently using Weapon Elemental Damage over Fire Penetration because i don’t have a second leveled Fire Penetration. The difference is only noticable in 75% Fire resistant maps, or generally very fire resistant mobs.

Blink Arrow
Spoiler

Blink arrow is a great addition to the game, it is mainly used as a way to open boxes safely and traverse ledges in a easy way.

Cast When Damage Taken
Spoiler

And what would any build be without the good old Cast When Damage Taken.
Enduring cry -> Immortal call.
Instead of Increased duration, this build (being a HC build) gains alot from having TempChains curse as the 4th link in the Cast when damage taken setup

Links
Spoiler

Note that these are not all the links i currently have myself, this is simply what i would call optimal if you can chrome everything right.

5L: Fire Penetration - Trap - Burning Arrow - Elemental Proliferation - Chance to ignite
5L: WED - Quality Inc Burning - Elemental Proliferation - Trap - Vaal Burning Arrow
3L: Reduced Mana - Anger - Grace
4L: Cast when damage taken - Immortal call - Enduring Cry - Temporal Chains
4L: Bloodmagic - Flammability - Molten Shell - Blink Arrow

With 6 Linked items:
6L: Increased Burining - Fire Penetration - WED - Elemental Proliferation - Trap - Vaal Burning Arrow
Got my 6L baby (colors are wrong)

6L: WED / Inc Aoe - Fire Penetration - Trap - Burning Arrow - Elemental Proliferation - Chance to ignite

Ultra Budget Links
Spoiler

Used this setup until i was level 84.

4 Link anywhere :
WED - Elemental Proliferation - Trap - Vaal Burning Arrow

4 Link in Deerstalker Unique boots:
Fire pen / WED - Burning Arrow - Prolif - Chance to ignite

Spoiler

Helping Oak in Normal is a given, give us that juicy HP.
Normal: OAK

Helping Oak or Killing all in Cruel is a hard choice, i find myself helping Oak everytime though. I think it is worth it.
Cruel: OAK / Kill all

If you want to use Selfcast Enduring Cry, you should help Oak. I don't personally think it is necessary. Therefore i kill all.
Merciless: Kill all / OAK

Leveling / Skilltree
Spoiler

In my old guide i said it was possible to play this is a ranged character right from level one, this is still the case. But after leveling again in Bloodlines i have found that using Flameblast is a much better way to level with this character. You can also level as a Molten Striker, this just requires more respecs later.

The only thing we care about is getting alot of Life and elemental damage until we reach level 62. Then we can finally start using our build, this is because level 62 is the level requirement for our bow Chin Sol.

We start off getting alot of HP on our way out of the Marauder tree, we will equip an Intelligence ammulet and start flamblasting at Level 10. Don't forget to craft a +1 Firegem sceptre, this alone will carry you way into the 50~ish levels. We are also grabbing some resist on our way out of the Marauder, you can chose to skip this because we are going to respec it later anyway. Don't forget to level with a Clarity aura, we will drop it later, but it will help us alot to flameblast.
http://poeurl.com/zbrfhWD

We will keep flameblasting with Chance to Ignite and Prolif and work our way into the Templar starting area, here we will grab all the AoE, life and Elemental damage necessary to keep us leveling really fast.
http://poeurl.com/zbrgbAx

We keep leveling and we get Unwavering Stance and the Purity of Flesh and Bloodless life wheels
http://poeurl.com/zbrgIQ0

This is how our tree is going to look when we finally reached level 62 and we are ready to take Point Blank and Avatar of Fire. We will immediatly start using our 4Linked Deerstalkers or our 4/5L chest and start the Trapping. It is important to have leveled your Reduced Mana, Anger and Grace before this point.

Old finished tree, before i got some mana problems
Spoiler

This is how the character would look at level 91, grabbing Unyielding last.
Here we can see that we address our small current mana problems grabbing the Unrelenting and Catalyze wheels.

And this is how the character would look if it was level 98.

FAQ
Spoiler

Q: Why aren’t you getting Clever Construction?
A: Trap passives are not all that good for damage, it is totally wasted going for them (as a Marauder). Not with the insane double dipping 12% firenodes over the Witch tree. Getting Clever Construction would be nice, but its not hard to play around it.

Q: Doable as a Shadow?
A: Shadow has more consistency from getting to take Clever Construction and arguably the same damage as a Marauder with this build.
The Shadow is alot less tanky however, just because of how evasion works…
It mostly comes down to playstyle. I know how to throw my traps, sure some of them get destroyed. But what i gain is 300~ish life regen and alot of armour. Eventhough Clever Construction is nice to have, it is not needed.

Q: Why are you skipping Holy Fire in the skill-tree?
A: All the other damage nodes i have taken are more efficient, these include 8% weapon elemental damage nodes, 10%+ elemental and fire damage nodes. All of them are better than having to travel through 2*int nodes to get to Holy Fire.
Holy fire just is not efficient enough.

Q: Would you use Increased Burning Damage gem?
A: Its fine until you meet a fire res mob, then you will realize your mistake fast.
Simply doesn’t give nearly the same damage as Fire-Pen and WED.

Q: What are the biggest flaws with this build?
A: Storm Heralds, Arc casters, Leapers and Dexterity.
Storm Heralds, Arc casters and Leapers can be hard to get used to fighting at first, but you get a hang of it. Not having Clever Construction it is just something we have to live with, but it is honestly not that bad.

Dexterity we will be needing on a few gear pieces, nothing major, we are getting 114 dexterity for the tree itself.

Q: I don’t see how this build has single-target damage?
A: Vaal Burning Arrow

Beyond Gameplay [From the Beyond Character]

Spoiler

Thanks:
Big thanks to GGG for featuring my build this second time around, so happy and in-awe that you guys take the time to make build of the week for us players!

Big thanks to WillyWonkaHC my dear friend that mentioned my build in State of exile some episodes ago and featuring me in one of his streams, thanks buddy.
Willy Shoutout: http://youtu.be/DtQBrVQG6ao?t=1h25m30s

And gigantig thanks to Namtro for supporting my plans to make this build in the theoricrafting weeks before Beyond, you are a great guy NamNam<3

So here is a little backstory, this is the 3rd or 4th time i remake this character.
First time i made him was back in the start of invasion, back before vaal-gems, before chin-sol was buffed, way back before 1.2 when BA had shit damage and not enough fire conversion to work on its own with AoF.

Invasion Templar
Spoiler

I played alot around with several templars, some of which ripped horribly, needless to say the build was pretty garbage, but it had potential.

When 1.2 came out and i read the patchnotes, i knew my dreams had come true. And the build was going to happen. Little did i know how strong it was going to be or how popular my build-guide would be, many thanks to WillywonkaHC showcasing my and my build on his stream one day<3.

I played the build the entirety of beyond-league and never ripped, keeping a steady stream of 77-78 maps because of the diversity of map-mods the build can handle.

I have never been more happy about a build i have made myself, when i got to level 90 i saw the character as finished. This Character has alot better gear then the one i am going to showcase later in this guide.

Spoiler

This is my Burning arrow Marauder, he uses traps and the unique bow Chin Sol for insane amounts of burning damage. This is the third time i have made this character, but all the changes in the 1.2 patch make this builds potential absolutely insane.

This was my first character in Beyond, and he is still living.

Highlight gear:
Spoiler

This build can be done with Templar, Ranger and Marauder.
i chose Marauder because this is a Hardcore League, and therefore staying alive is a top priority.

Finally got the right colours on my helm to get a CwDt setup!
Also finally have enough DEX and res to get a Rearguard quiver!

If you have some questions about the build, message me at: SyreHavrd

FAQ
Spoiler

WHY NO CLEVER CONSTRUCTION?
-Trap passives are still trash, it is totally wasted going for them. Not with the insane double dipping 12% firenodes over the Witch tree
-Eventhough Clever Construction is nice to have, it is NOT needed and you lose way too much damage taking shitty trapnodes.

WHY NO HOLY FIRE?
-All the other damage nodes i have taken are more efficient, these include 8% weapon elemental damage nodes, 10%+ elemental and fire damage nodes. All of them are better than having to travel through 2*int nodes to get to Holy Fire.

WHY NO INC BURNING?
-Its fine until you meet a fire res mob, then you will realize your mistake immediatly.
Espessialy considering this is a Beyond Leagues build, where elemental resistant mobs are everywhere.

CAN YOU POST VIDEOS OF HIGHER LVL MAPS?
-Yes in the future, i will not risk my computer fucking up the game while recording. You can see from how i rape a +5 chest level box with an exile in it in the Pier video that i have more than enough damage.

WHY NO SINGLE TARGET?
- Not needed, at all. Not yet anyway.

The reason this build is so powerful this patch are changes to its key components.
-Burning arrow was changed to have a 50% conversion, this used to be 30%, this means you don't need a Blackgleam anymore, you actually get to have a good elemental quiver.
-Chin Sol has been changed to have alot more damage than it had before, it was a good bow for with build in invasion, but holy cow is it good now.
-Lavalash now gives more damage without traveling!
-The skilltree is easier to manouver, this means that both point blank and the fire damage of the witch are more easier to get to.

Eventhough the Character is far from finished and is still only in the early 80's, it has so much damage that it can basically 1shot most map bosses and even Merc Vaal oversoul.

Gameplay
Doing lower level maps because of recording + playing might cause a crash, and i want to stay alive. Hope this is understood.

The build still does amazing at higher maps.

The build is going to be using Grace soon aswell, usually you get this from your teammates but you totally have the capacity to do so.

This is because Herald of ash is not as build enabling as one would think, it is still a great dps boots when your Reduced mana is leveling.
The reason Herald of ash is not THAT great is because the traps do not cause an overkill effect, this only works if its my own attacks. Herald of ash is still an amazing ability for leveling and is still useful in maps!

Spoiler
The whole consept of this build is stacking stupid amounts of fire damage that we can proliferate to kill the monsters of wraeclast.

The way we do that is stack Multipliers, These multipliers are Point Blank 50% - Trap 35% - Chin Sol 100%
This in combination with all the fire damage nodes we have on the tree and all the Strenght we get from going the route we are going and picking up Iron Grip gives us a stupid amount of Fire damage on out Buring Arrow hit, This then gets all the Multiplicative bonuses and has the potential to 1shot anything i have faced in the game so far(Not gone over 72 maps).

Notice that the Chance to ignite on Burning arrow does not take in account the chance to ignite from Mokou's Embrace and from passives in the tree, This number goes up to 100% with the Flammability curse.

You will be using the Vaal Burning arrow to clear things like Totems with other minions cannot die, bosses, beyond packs and just regualr blue packs. All of them die from 1 vaal burning arrow, so you can just keep running, the addition of this makes the build very effecient in doing both piety farming and clearing maps at really good speeds. This is both used for boss killing and as a fast pack clearer when you are out of normal traps.

Spoiler
At the start just find yourself a bow and use Rain of arrows, theis will be our skill of choise until we get our Proliferation gem at lvl 24. Use burning arrow for singletarget.

Get a high phys bow, rush Lava Lash and Avatar of Fire, then get Iron Grip.

Use Burning arrow - Prolif - Added Fire
Don't forget to have Herald of ash and Anger!

Some people have suggested to me that going Molten Strike was a faster way to level, but i really think that the Burning arrow Prolif will do more than enough for you. I haven't tried leveling this with molten strike because i havent needed to, still alive.

Spoiler

This will be more than enough to get you to merciless, take all the hp on the tree and the AOE in the Templar.(Don't get Damage, you do not need it).

Spoiler
http://poeurl.com/yZFfPRT

At level 62 you finally convert to Traps when you get your Chin Sol and Point Blank in the tree, at this point, you are already broken, and then you get all the fire damage from the tree. You also use all the rest of your days walking into the witch tree.
You can also drop the Marauder resist nodes whenever you have good enough gear, this saves us some points.

Normal: OAK
Cruel: OAK
Merciless: Kill all

Spoiler
This build has a few issues though, these problems include LEAPERS and STORM HERALDS. You have to play smart if you want to kill these with your traps, These are usually not a problem aslong as you have a vaal burning arrow up, this is because it goes of alot faster than the other burning arrow, i do not know why. It works for me atleast.

And those towershield bastards that shield charge you in barracks, They block your normal Burning arrows, its not a BIG deal. Just annoying

The other problem is Fractured Beyonders, if you're doing a fracture map. Lets say a Zana Fracture map with Seawitches (yes i got this quest). And lets say you spawn some beyonders, NO PROBLEM all beyonders die from the burn. Then they Fracture, and they don't leave corpses, so its impossible to kill them all without having a vaal burning arrow.

Also, build needs a shitton of dex on gear, get ready

Spoiler
Is this build done?
NO, nowhere near done.
Not only is this my third try at a build like this, but there are still alot of improvements to be made with this build.

This build wants a Carcass jack so bad, its such a shame my Bow is eating all my currency.

Cast when damage taken setup: Cast when damage taken - enduring cry - immortal call

Getting the insanely overpowered Adds 1 additional arrow on a quiver, holy chriswilsonjesus that thing is powerful with this build.

More damage and HP on gear, alot of my gear pieces are really bad and my dps and suvivability can go through the roof with some item

Get that freaking 5L on my Chin Sol. I have wasted well over 150 fusings trying to fuse this mess of a bow, but i will keep pouring all my rewards into linking that shit. Don't want to be scammed by that Vorici master. 150 fusings, what a ripoff.

Using a High level Moltenshell is also something i have thought about, should be pretty baller, inb4 reflect rip

And this Character can also be improved by buying more MTX to make him look even more badass.

I will add to this build as i figure things out.

This was my first build thread, hope to make more in the future.
If i get enough responses to this thread, i might add some footage of me 1 shotting map bosses.

Sounds awesome, I tried to theorycraft it but failed :)
Dmg must be insane, but overkilling whites is meaningless if clear speed is low, so here is my question: How's clear speed?
Can you please record some gameplay? or show me ingame?
looks shitty
can confirm, builds legit, chuck a trap down watch everything on the screen just fall over, bosses you throw one trap and just run away, it'll just fall over in a few seconds

clear speed is really nice
This seems ok but how is it better then fire trap?

Well your build does the same as a burn fire trap build and plays exactly the same way so its not more or less fun since its the same just with other gear, so if its not better there would be no point to do it.

Im not saying its worse then fire trap thought.
