So, the new expansion comes. How was the last one?

I like the addition of vaal orbs and skills. The bosses in the corrupted zones are over the top... as most things GGG seems to add. They need to cut back on that, since it makes the other 98% of the game kind of worthless.
SOTV was probably the most successful season they've ever released. Well thought, designed with imagination and perfectly balanced. A new great final boss people loved to farm, in addition.

The constant increase in numbers of active players during season speaks by itself.

It was pretty meh because no new act. Also I don't like most of the new changes to PoE.
i use a secret account because i am a politician that doesnt want the NSA to know i play poe.
ambush was like standard part 2

it's invasion that's fun even if it went through lots of 'balancing'

but the best thing overall was the 2-week ambuvasion race, bar none
Stongboxes are great, Invaders where a bit to strong, now they are boring, atziri and vaal areas are bad for the game, so many builds that cant kill her because it requires insane gear or aura stacking, Uber atziri requres insane gear and aura stacking...

Vaal Orbs are fun to youll never now what you get, rng and crafting for the poor that can make even cheap uniqes a lot better

I liked sotv quite a bit even though I have never done Atziri. I've found two mid nights but don't have a character that is up to it as I play without trading and prefer melee. I like having her out there as a someday goal.

The Vaal gems are fun and I've found ways to make most of them worth at least a two socket setup. They make a lot more sense in the context of invasion or ambush though. I was kinda annoyed at all the standard players posting they were useless but when I played legacy HC between the 4 month and 1 month I did find then of much less value. Long term I likely won't use many if them, especially the ones with high soul costs.

I love the corruption areas. I clear everything and think the baseline difficulty of this game has skipped too easy so I am happy to have more difficult spots to play in. I'm all for more and more random encounters and events to spicy things up. I do wish they were bigger, I think you should always be able to charge a highest cost vaal before the boss area. And the boss dying should open a door that lets you exit out the back but other than that I am happy.

Cool expansion, too bad they are pumping out expansions before giving us things they promised.

Same. Also hoping with the free respecs, I can fix a few of my characters so they ARE actually able to handle Atziri.
Looking at the expansion alone?

#Good#
- the theme was cool
- vaal orb is cool and the mechanics they open are really good ( though i want MOA)
- vaal areas do what they should, introduce new players to how mapping works
- treasure chests are super nice though they add another layer of RNG

#Bad#
- vaal gems are unfinished and could be way better, to be exact the soul system sucks because you can´t modify it


I wish though they wouldn´t release a new "expansion" now. I would want that they do a "2.0 overhaul" where they do their desired UI, netcode and game changes, fix skills, problems and wishes from the community like the trading system first instead of releasing content after content though i can understand that this game is a running business for them and their families.

I found Ambush great. Strongbox were a great addition to the game and fun also. (well apart the fact you have +1200% rarity on the box and drop only white... that was frustrating).
I had 1 character reaver shield marauder and attempt once Atziri. Because of my low level I died to the double vaal. Never found enough fragment to try again.

Invasion was ok but not as good as nemesis. First time I quit to stay alive and started again. Not really funny actually. I attempt 2-3 character there. The best one was a templar marauder that die to an invasion boss in Merciless.

Corrupt zone are really cool but it was a pain to run outside map to have the fragment. I really wonder if I will do this again in new extension. Maybe better to run map and buy the fragment. This part really need to change. Would be really nice if Corrupt zone could appear in Map.

I do not like the vaal orb. I only used it on small item and my best one never.

Vaal skill are fun but their need to be improve. They are good and fun low lvl but after a certain time only a few are usefull. They will be probably be interesting with a little rework.

I did not saw any comment about this til then but there was also a new passive tree. Particularly for the marauder area. At the beginning I found the new tree cool, for race where it was "easier" to make a good build as the old tree. But after some race and after thinking a lot of build for the mara I found the second part of the tree really horrible. It is worst as the old one for sure !!! You need 5-6 points on the top part to come out and 8 points to come out from the bottom way !!!! Look other class like duelist, you need only 3 points to come out from the second part of the tree. The bonus from this part of the tree is not worth investing those points. It give the feeling that you loose a lot of time with "start point" Unfortunatly, the tree was just changed and I already hope they will change it again fast as the new tree is for me really disapointing. I really prefer the old one.

Conclusion : Ambush great ! Invasion not so great^^ ! Corrupt area is a real cool idea that can still be improve. New Tree disappointed. Did not like vaal orb.
