RoS sales is a sign that millions are still searching for a better arpg playing experience. .
" Try with 'badasscore', maybe that one works. Maybe it's the word 'hard' after all, even though playing hardcore doesn't make the game any harder per se, it just changes your mindset. The trouble is, ARPGs can't be truly hardcore in the first place (referring to hardcore in permadeath sense, not personal investment), it just lasts too long so it's unrealistic to expect of you total concentration for hundreds of hours of repetitive actions like farming, so it enables building your char in such a way you can't die to average content except by a major screwup. That's why invasion is so badly received and plunged in popularity, you just can't be expected to be on your toes all the time even when farming, it just doesn't marry with this type of a game. " One could argue that having one life instead of an infinite amount does make the game harder. Imagine Super Mario with infinite lives, ez pz. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" Nah, it's still the same game, if infinite life mario hadn't died once there would be no difference at all. It's not really about the game, it's how you play it and ARPGs give you the tools to facilitate the 'not dieing' part. Super Mario is a more hardcore game in that aspect than any ARPG, everybody uses the same Mario and there's no randomness involved. Same as those old beat-em-ups, if you got only one coin to spend on a game you're less likely to do it than the other guy with five, but it's still equally hard for both of you. ... Heh, good times, I remember playing golden axe - revenge of death adder one summer, after a while I could get to the statue with one coin but I'd usually die there, then I stumbled upon the 'mantis glitch' by accident that allowed me to kill the last boss effortlessly, then I got to do it fair and square, then I managed to regularly clear the whole game without losing a single life, and ultimately I could do it with any character I wished. Now that was satisfying, can't really experience something like it again. " Ha. You have to clear to yourself what HC actually means. Being able to bypass one of the things, that define HC, by pressing a combination of two kbd. buttons, or autolog macro/script, is hilarious. I love when the uber hyper super HC "monsters", that continually spit on their dignity, fleeing out of battles and dangerous situations, use to teach the people what HC is and dare to discuss about HC mentality or whatever shit. Usually bashing on "noob SC scrubs". Believe me, some of these scrubs are more HC than most of the wannabe HC heroes. They will fight to death, they will not skip content and yes, they care about harsh exp. penalties at high levels. Hypocrisy ? Stupidity ? Self delusion ? It's not a personal attack, I speak in general. This is a buff © 2016 The Experts ™ 2017 Last edited by torturo#7228 on Apr 9, 2014, 5:30:28 AM

" Damn. Guess I slipped through this, after all, I didn't get involved in a discussion with a butthurt multi-supporter. @Xavderion That's not evidence, that's your opinion. I for one, don't like the permadeath thing, I never did, because of my playstyle. But when someone mentions the word hardcore and alt+f4/log-out is being used on a regular basis, regardless in what league he uses it in (because PoE is a hardcore game, not only a game with a hardcore league), I can only laugh. As long as that thing is present (and it probably will forever, because who would play on HC without it in the current game situation?) there can be no room for the word hardcore. |
