Good effort.

I imagine that GGG develops a similar trading system already.
I don't necessarily agree with your proposal, but my god that is beautifully presented. Do you work in the graphics industry?

Thank you dyl. Indeed I work as Advertising as Creative Director (and sometimes Art Director) but eventually make contributions to indie and crowd-sourced games. Nothing professional for gaming industry though, I just love to create game mechanic stuff). The presentation is actually quite raw visually (focused on mechanics instead of looks). Last time I expend this amount of time was for "Infinity: A quest for earth" - it was a complete functionality design and visual concept for the spacecraft huds (and some spacecraft 3d models)... sadly, most contributions there got lost when they migrate to the new site.

Although PoE isn't crowd sourced, it has a strong evolving mentality around it. I like to think that suggestions like these are actually contributing. Specially because the game is free, and since now, I haven't invested a single peny on it yet ^.^

Thumbs up for the effort but given how many times this has been suggested (in various, sometimes equally elaborate forms) it should by now be pretty obvious that there won't be any intermediate trade changes until this one hits:

The new trading changes aren't in the March 1.1.0 patch - there are two reasons:
a) We're keen to deploy them as soon as they're ready. There's no real need to wait for the next four-monthly patch.
b) The new trading stuff is not ready yet. It's a major system overhaul and we're still working on it. I'm really sorry about the delay.

As for how it works, the current plan is a combination of public stash tabs (to make it easier to find items) and separately, an asynchronous cross-instance-website trading system. You can basically trade (without buyouts) across the game and website. The trades and offers are still there when you log in later, so it's possible to trade with offline people or people who aren't in your game area or are on their phone or work PC.

P.S. "search" is to the left of the [new thread] button. ;-)
First and foremost, I appreciate the intricacy and effort you put into this illustration on how trading in-game from your perspective should be in PoE. That being said, I don't agree with everything you've proposed to GGG in your OP, and due to its complexity for what you're wanting / wishing GGG to do to improve trading, I highly doubt they're going to implement something like in your OP of that magnitude since they won't even implement simpler methods... (hasn't happened.)

What I'm getting at is I too have given my ideas to GGG on how trading in PoE should be (as seen here) that's much more simpler and user-friendly to use than what you have explained and illustrated in your OP.

So what happened? I didn't get much feedback (other than from Chris in a PM) saying anything about my idea(s). So I wish you all the best in getting a response from the developers.

Conclusively, we'll see what GGG comes up with to improve in-game trading. (I'm hoping soon.)
When game developers ignore the criticism that would improve their game, the game fails.
Just because a game receives a great amount of praise vs. only a small amount of criticism
does not mean to call it a day and make a foolish misplaced assumption that it is perfect.

I have been thinking of this idea for a couple months now. Today I spoke with a friend in more detail, and thought I'd see if anyone had suggested a more succinct version.

While I strongly agree with the idea of a new area (I thought Sarn Arena could have been a bazaar), I think it would be best to do it, if possible, with act 4. That would give the players time to actually have gear, and not get too OP for the early-game maybe? Although it would be abusable with another character/friends in HC.

As the other people before me have mentioned, GGG has had plans to revamp trading since the end of Closed Beta. They want to improve on the forum trading, and possibly have some in-game variant as well. MTX shop tabs have been talked about, and I think that works even better with a stall system, as it reduces clutter!

The "Exile Smuggler" is a good idea, but it reduces the need for resources spent on a marketplace, when people can just go to smuggler and buy the items from him. I propose the "Exile Smuggler" could be used to browse the forum shops, while the marketplace could be a more exploratory system. The smuggler could even say "I think I saw that item over in the third alley at the blue stall", or something immersion-friendly, but a teleport to the shop seems a bit redundant.

If the system has a pop-up notification, and you have to open your social tab to check "SHOP" status, I think it would work well(Maybe we would see less whispers followed by a *PLAYER HAS DIED AT POSITION 6 AT THE LADDER* pictures hehe). It also feels a bit excessive to have the buyer teleport to the shop just for one purchase (what if it's just a small item for 1alch?). Perhaps just the dialogue box sans teleport option would suffice. Also accepting the item sale could send the currency into a separate stash tab set specifically for your completed sales. So you could get your alch, after your map, or just leave it as your currency stash tab.

I think that this is a fantastic idea, and I have been curious to see if anyone suggested it in depth. Nice to see! I see no reason to disagree with something that could make the game more approachable, and more interesting. The problem with trading right now is spam, and time. Everyone who agrees with a auction house will comment on how we spend hours in trade chat, and everyone who is against a AH will say "The new trade system is coming!". Accessibility is not necessarily a bad thing, it's not a arbitrary term. If we could have a mix of offline/online trading, and bartering it would be a big improvement for a lot of players, myself included.

I think that if GGG worked with us we could have something that could benefit the community greatly. and I hope this thread at least has some ideas come from it.
