Would you pay to have GGG focus exclusively on fixing the game issues but no new content?
This is a bit of a catch 22. If they spend all their money trying to completely eradicate desynch (which isn't really feasable) they're not going to have any money to fix it... Donations would most certainly drop if they announced there would be no big content updates for a year or two.

I would absolutely buy some points and/or a support pack if the desync issue was improved. I don't even get bad lag, most of the time. When I'm not desyncing, my ping is rarely above 100, usually like 80. But the desync is bad enough to make the game frustrating, and sometimes straight up unplayable. Dying and losing a bunch of progress because of desync is a regular occurrence, and I find myself frantically using the /oos command more often than some of my skills. It bums me out because I absolutely love this game. It's the best iso-ARPG I've ever played (yes, it's even better than Diablo 2), and iso-ARPGs have been my favorite kind of game since Diablo 1. If it weren't so good, the desync issue would have made me give up on it long ago. But I've playing off and on since closed beta in summer 2012 and I keep coming back, despite the desync, which I sometimes feel has actually gotten worse recently.
I understand that it's impossible to completely eliminate all desync. It would be silly to think that could be done. And I'm also not a programmer, at any level, so I have no idea what it takes, but it seems to me that it must be possible to make the desync far less severe than it is. I base that on the fact that I can't remember ever getting such bad in desync in any other online game, except maybe the first week or so of Diablo 3. I'm not gonna stop playing POE, but it would make me so happy if they could get the desync under control, at least. |

No, but until it's resolved and possibly melee being made viable without having godly endgame gear I consider myself done. RoS is around corner and Wildstar coming out in June so I'll have my hands full anyway. Maybe I'll jump back in to check out act 5

You know i've been playing games online for a looong time. And I've yet to see any game that can magically fix lag.
Lag is always present unless you're in a lan, sure there are variables here like distance between you and the host, the quality of your connection ect... but it's always been up the player to compensate and overcome the lag. I learned to lead all my shots in CS by 110ms because thats the ping I get to California and still to this day I will forgo a closer ping server for one about 100ms away because my muscle memory is honed for that. PoE makes a couple design choices that make lag more noticeable from other games. You can manually evade melee hits from monsters by ducking out of the way where most games let the monster hit you from across the room as long as they started the animation. But you can adapt, holding shift for every attack (yes even melee ones) will greatly reduce the rate at which you encounter desync. If you notice the signs of desync you can pop your defensive flask and hit your /oos macro. Or you know hero log. I remember being really pissed off in D3 when spear-chucking goatmen would kill me with spears inches from my char (ofc is d3 every hit ment you died lol prenerf inferno) And D3 doesn't let me dodge melee hits like poe does and they have a few more billion $ at their disposal then the poe team. So if they can't fix lag and desync and opt to just hide it under pretty graphics why do you think a team far smaller and with far less funds can? | |
I don't think the people who are currently playing would pay more, however more people would certainly start playing and some of them would probably donate.
" [Removed by Support] Nobody is complaining about lag. The problem is desync. They're two different things. Nobody would complain if we had delay, because you can get used to it and know how to play with it. Not with desync. No.
If and when I purchase a microtransaction or supporter pack it'll be for the game as a whole, not just for a single thing. Also what maffa50 and Nuttzo said. " "Let those with infinite free time pave the road with their corpses." - reboticon

Online only games completely gimp themselves. Until everyone has fibre optic connections, it will remain this way. They can solve the problem for many people by providing a offline mode. But companies don't want to support it to prevent a tiny minority from taking advantage of things.
It's sad that so many people must suffer. This game is designed for multi player, but in a party game, it's basically unplayable due to desync. Imagine the potential the game would have without the self imposed restrictions Last edited by Dj_Meltdown#0330 on Mar 14, 2014, 10:11:49 PM

" Speed != quality of connection. You could have 100gbit up/down SDSL and would still encounter the same issues, as it's entirely based on the amount of refreshes the server exchanges with the client (vice versa). Good example would be: Server asks your client for the connection (let's say its 5byte, which is greatly exaggerated), would it matter if you'd have 1mbit or 20gbit? No, important would be the amount of refreshed the server requests from your client and as long as your connection can provide sufficient amount of replies, there won't be any desync caused on your end. Issue is I guess it takes a lot of possible power on the provider end, if you want to do that for a lot of players and circumvent desync as much as possible, desync is in the end nothing else - not enough exchanged positions and desyncs client position and the position the server assumes of your character, takes also more processing power etc. ontopic: would pay subscription fee to get both Last edited by talichan#7245 on Mar 15, 2014, 2:33:12 AM

I think they should put priority on a new act above all.
I find the stuff they're adding fun but not nearly as substantial as a new act would be. |

" Based on my experience programming over the past 30 years, in 25 different languages, and the way these 'issues' affect me when I play I say: Hell no! Desync is something that I see on the forums on a regular basis and almost never when I play the game. |
