Would you pay to have GGG focus exclusively on fixing the game issues but no new content?

" Saying it doesn´t affect you at all or saying "i never died because of dsync" is a huge difference. And don´t missunderstand me .. I also got no problem with dsync because i´m able to build around it.. but you will never see me saying it doesn´t affect me or my playstyle because that would be a lie to the face. " if i never died to it, in which other ways would it affect me? and yes, it doesnt noticeably negatively impact me or my play style, this includes running around at 125 movespeed as a zero armor eva based archer with quicksilvers on. the primary complaint is that desync causes players to get killed in situation where they would have not died. but i digress, this shouldnt degrade into another pointless desync thread. " Then you´re again denying the truth in my opinion or you lie. Sorry. You can´t sit there with a straight face and talk to me you do a 1xxxx ms eva build with qs and say dsync doesn´t affects you. Next thing you call is you do a msCyclon and say dsync is never a problem at all. Whatever... edit:"but i digress, this shouldnt degrade into another pointless desync thread." What possible reason or gain would I have to lie? If you very briefly check my post history you will see I am very far from a GGG white cloak.
I dont choose to do multistrike cyclone because it is an grossly inferior build, potential desync associated with it is irrelevant. IGN: Arlianth Check out my LA build: 1782214 Last edited by Nephalim#2731 on Mar 14, 2014, 5:11:22 PM

" I've seen this argument a lot during these types of debates (for PoE and other games), and I don't understand it. If a company has a budget, and can only hire so many people, how can it hire both artists and programmers without splitting the budget between them? If you take it for granted that the employees are already hired, then yes, you are correct about the development process. But the OP is asking if PoE's technical issues warrant a personnel adjustment. |

The latency issue boils down to issues with the player's ISP connection, the routers in between (the delay, number of hops and packet loss)and the response time of the servers.
As long as GGG's servers can handle the load, then there isn't really a latency issue they can fix. They may be able to help some individual users identify connection problems through the running of WinMTR and the log it generates. The issue with desync has a lot to do with server to client trust. From what I have read and understand (please correct me if I am wrong on this) it is set up so that the client on the player's side cannot cheat or generate cheats. If players could be trusted not to cheat, then this wouldn't be necessary at all. Unfortunately, too many of them can't be trusted. Imagine if GGG flipped a switch and there was almost zero desync (latency issues only) but anyone could make their own level 100 character with infinite life and 8 link Kaom's Heart with 99999 life. Scenarios like that are the extreme other side of the desync issue. In D2 we saw hex charms, white gloves, duped items (permed and non-permed) etc. Do we really want a path of exile where hacked items are so common that players have to vendor 3,489 Legacy Kaoms to generate "Atziri walks the Earth" instances? Some would say yes, but imo most would say no. Now, could there possible be a technical amelioration of desync? Possibly. If GGG had a good estimate of the time it would take to find and implement something that would significantly mitigate desync, then I would be willing to contribute towards it. I think it should be a separate project with its own budget and allow players to contribute specifically towards it. It should have dedicated programmers who were not tasked with anything else. I don't think new content production should stop though. Anyhow, that's my take on the issue. People more experienced with this sort of thing probably have better suggestions. If it would be possible to do a 100% desync protection you would have discovered the formula for everything.
Because the client and the server are by default out of sync, due to physical limitations of space ie you can't travel faster than the speed of light, you have to make predictions of what is going to happen. Now, if anyone could make a 100% accurate prediction you have discovered how to predict human behaviour. Well, in Path of Exile at least. To claim that such a thing is possible is ridiculous. It is of course the wet dream of anyone working with predicting outcomes but it will never happen. So to sign your petition, No, I don't think they should work on a "fix" for desync no matter how annoying it is. The only feasible thing that, I can see, that they can do is to change fundamental things about the game but this would have to change the game to another game and another type of game. Path of Exile requires instant action so I don't see this happening. Of course, they could release a local single player version which would fix the issue entirely, but the will not happen. |

I'd pay to not see ten of these threads pop up daily.
Does that count? It doesn't? Ah, pity. |
