I'm Unhappy I Put As Much Money As I Did In This Game

Exactly, its like feel free to make awesome builds, but if you find one that works really well we will just nerf it, so whats the point? Its a loot game where loot dosent fucking drop, only the trade whores can afford to craft, make a build that works to well and people complain NERFED its like really what is the point of the game here?

HAH!

I can tell you a funny story related to this. I played this game a ton in the open Beta. My crowning build that I was trying very very very hard to make work was a CI Vaal Pact elemental crit archer. Very exotic, very cool.

So I spent 2 - 3 months of my farm just crafting myself an uber bow. I'm not the best or most dedicated, but I would say I spent maybe 60 exalts crafting the bow. It has all three elemental rolls mostly maxed, attack speed, and a max crit roll - 6L ofc.

Two weeks after I finished the bow, GGG released Voltaxic Rift - crushing any potential resale value of the bow, ever. I took this in stride, instead deciding "fuck it - my bow is cooler and rare and I made it myself, there's only one, and I'm doing my build anyway."

I worked my ass off just to get the rest of the bare minimum of what I needed to make it all work, the 5L ES chest with weird off-colors, the Rainbowstrides, the Dream Fragments etc....All this stuff was expensive to get because I was on Hardcore (where I preferred to play). The gear needed weird combinations of stats that nobody else saved or wanted in HC, like +accuracy.

Then, a month after that (might have been longer the times are all fuzzy), 1.0.0 came out and they announced Scion and the butchering of the middle of the tree, making the entire spec basically impossible for a Ranger. I barely had much time to even enjoy it because of how heavily gated the gear was.

THAT was when I flipped my shit and just quit. I'm here now playing on Invasion and it feels like deja-vu. I could easily see myself getting enamored with a Spectral Throw build, but I know that by the time I got my gear even remotely settled the entire thing will just be destroyed - some revision of the skill tree coupled with skill changes will make it not work.

Or perhaps I would invest in a cool rare item, then watch in disgust as a Legendary gets released that crushes what I just spend 60ex+ crafting, just like before.

I am in total agreement, you pretty much nailed the issues that are currently plaguing this game.

I've purchased around $150 in microtransactions, mostly because I wanted more space to store items, but also because I think GGG are saints for releasing a game this good for free, and I wanted to at least do my part to help with development.

I don't regret giving them money. I haven't had this much fun with an ARPG since D2, and I think my 1000+ hours of enjoyment were well worth it.

Having said that, I'm not very happy with the direction this game is heading in the latest patch. More gated content, more RNG, more 1-shot bosses, less build diversity, life node nerfs, leech rework. These changes just amplified the already existing problems of the game, namely the terribly low drop rates and desync. Build enabling uniques are a great idea, but only if they are actually obtainable in a reasonable timeframe without having to flip items and trade all day.

There's a few too many people to quote, but I appreciate all the traffic this is getting. While yes, you're giving your money to a company you agree with, it feels like I paid them to make a game THEY enjoy, not for me. Their original vision is seemingly getting lost in horrible content updates and poor balance.

I imagine I'm coming off too negatively, but I would just like an enjoyable game, Charon, you find your "home" in this, and I used to, but I won't be coming back if it doesn't change, and that's rather lame for lack of better terms. I'm tired of them finding builds to destroy rather than gems that don't get used and making them viable. I'm sad to hear what happened to tikitaki, funny enough they still haven't made that bow reasonable. No drawbacks and it makes you completely safe in end-game, yet they'll reduce health nodes...I don't get it.

What I don't understand though, why do you feel your money is wasted? You probably have a couple of hundred hours of play time, wasn't that worth your money?

He is talking about spending $300+

I too have contributed in tis manner. I didn't have to but I did because the game was enjoyable and was hoping that "donating" money would improve the game. But sadly it is going in the opposite direction

In comparison a good game may cost me $60 off shelf for unlimited use.

I personally have lost almost all interest in playing this game. Seriously I know I am not a completely dedicated gamer but I should not have to be just to "enjoy" a game.

The bottom line is that I agree with this post wholeheartedly.

This game is simply not fun to play.

And if 1,000 people say so and 10 rebuttle with "you can't deal with the changes" or "you need to re-invest your points or play more intelligently" is nonsense.

Now I feel like I have to adjust my gameplay to match the changes in the latest patch and I am playing catch up to all the stupid changes GGG makes instead of playing different classes and using different skills and HAVING FUN!!

Speaking of skills. It's sad when new players come to a game and best advice they get is to google a good build before starting or you don't have a chance. That says something about the design and "balancing" of the game.

I don't expect or want to walk all over the game but I do expect to be able to survive without relenting to the flavor build of the month (SB anyone?)

How is it fun to follow my friend around at level 40 while he melts everything around him with no gear using searing bond and I can barely touch monsters and can't even sustain an attack due to mana issues? Is that balanced?

How is it fun to fight a rare boss for 5+ minutes for him to drop 7 white items? And I am supposed to repeat this ad nausea in hopes that on the 400th time he might drop something I can use? Lame...just simply lame and definitely not fun.

I, too, regret the amount of money with which I supported GGG and PoE. I should have waited longer to make my decision to do so.

I don't, however, regret it for the same reasons the OP does. I actually have that regret because my thinking is more along the line of Charan's than the OP's.

My post history here will show a lot of complaints about the issues the OP brought up, but ultimately those were issues I could live with as I (at the time) still had hope for the game. What drove me away in the end was Chris Wilson.

A company's attitude toward it's customer goes a long way with me. I may be alone in this, but I'll ignore a game I could potentially love if I disagree with the development philosophy behind it. I vehemently disagree with what I learned (too late) to be the philosophy behind PoE. When Chris said in his interview with Athene that people who play in soft core do so because they're not mentally strong enough for hardcore and that people who don't like trading just don't know what's fun I lost any respect I had for him, GGG, and PoE. I also lost any hope for the future of the game. Elitist douchebag bullshit might attract a small niche audience of similarly delusional players, but hardly enough to keep a company afloat, I think. They may prove me wrong, and more power to 'em if they do, but I'll believe it when I see it. I don't think it's a recipe for 10 post launch years, as they've said they envision.

In the end, it's their game to do with as they will. Had I known who these people were, though, they would not have seen a cent of my money and I would never have even downloaded the client.

Looks like I have a different attitude towards such stuff. I also spent $200+, and if tomorrow Chris said 'I'm sick of this shit, I'm turning the servers off', I'd be a bit mad/sad at first, but I wouldn't regret the money I spent, because I got a lot of enjoyment for it. But I also understand your point of view.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
I've donated a lot of money as well, but I do not consider it wasted. I think I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of the game as it was.

Now, I'm just not going to contribute anymore until I like what I see. That is more than fair, because I've donated more to GGG than any other game I've ever played (monetary wise).

But don't whine about the money spent in the past. That isn't cool. Just think about Today and the Tomorrow.
GGG listens to its fans!!! Thank you!
For the record, I consider my 1k+ invested to be a waste. They've gone off the rails with RNG and some of the recent post's from the dev's just infuriate me. Wish I had given it to the folks making GD. Ah well. such is life.

I really never thought of this thread as whining.

I think that most people gave money to GGG because it was under the guise of further development of the game for all of us to enjoy. This is supposed to be a community driven development of the game and it was in this spirit that people gave.

I hardly call this development.

I would feel the same if my tax dollars were used by my local government to build huge machines to tear up the roads as oppose to fixing them.

I have no regrets about the money I gave and don't care that much about the money. It's the principle.

The game feels stupidly unplayable and completely unenjoyable. I gave it 3 days to play with some friends and we all feel the same. On the 3rd day (today) as I was launching the game I actually cringed and that is the exact moment I realized that this was not a game anymore but more of a tedious completely fruitless chore.

And much like yourself I will not buy anything from GGG any more until I see a better product. If I ever download this game again.
