STOP NINJAS - FIX LOOT RULES FOR GODS SAKE
Lets see the ways this is hurting...
Partying Motivation: I have come to the part where I don't party due to the stress it creates, even if I don't want the item the fact that someone I am partying with has taken that item by most definitely spam clicking while the timers on shows they don't care about anyone else and are just trashy human beings, I don't want to party with that kind of person. Latency: There is an extreme disadvantage for international players who will generally have the 220-250ms latency instead of the 30ms or so. You get the drop notification later as well as your loot click arriving later so just because the timers there doesnt mean you'll get your item if you are international. Creating Ninja's: A ninja can create others as I have often thought "These guys are being ninja's I may as well too if I want to get anything decent", I have passed on that but I'm sure others have turned to ninja's that way. Solutions: 1) Increase the loot timer 2) Remove the loot timer 3) Ban a person from looting the item if they click on it before the timer has expired. Weird definition of ownership. While in more barbaric days possession was indeed 9/10ths of the law where ownership was concerned, in modern society... not so much.
But we're just mincing hairs here. The point is GGG stuck the player names on the items during the timer period, this implies some amount of 'ownership' if only in potential. As a long time hard core pvp veteran of various games, I have to say, FFA looting in a PvE context sucks the big one. It is practically all reward and no risk for the 'ninja'. If the devs truly wanted a 'cut throat' feel, then allow pvp and full corpse looting along with FFA and longer portal/alt-f4 delays. That would be hardcore. This is phfftt playground bully in a rich kid's school. |

" Yes, because PoE is clearly designed around the principles of modern society. It's not at all designed around the idea of barbarism. ... In PoE, POSSESSSION is ownership. I wasn't making a point beyond that, because there isn't a point beyond that to make. MOAR PANTS, because every good game needs a pointless meme.

Yes, wouldn't mind them adding a few seconds on the timer, maybe add +2 seconds for Unique Monsters, +4 seconds for Act-Bosses.

This is getting interesting, ty all for your reply. It's important to note that after killing a mob it drops a number of items. When it does and if you are top priority you have a chance to be the first "chance". Ok so let's say you got the item first, increasing the timer is a good thing but not a full answer to the rest of the loot you might want to also grab before others.
People are now focusing in the timer which is one part that needs some thought. The other area or areas I want to look at is what is currently happening as we speak in game. 1 - Regardless of your class if your e.g. a marauder you end up seeing a wizard ninja your item class specific item. Do you justify that being fair ? 2 - Given ranged classes have to stay back a bit, on bosses by the time they run for their assigned loot it's bye bye charlie again and ty Mr. Ninja. 3 - Will increasing timers help the player approach the loot he/she wants possibly but only for that 1 item. Hang on what about the other blue or rare items who will get those. I guess Freddy Quick 5 fingers will. In short this is what we have been seeing in this post that needs addressing. * - Assigned loot timers increased * - Ninja execution button made for groups to make party leader kick the ninja out. * - When grouping, leader Defines loot rules based on class, those classes having first priority. So for e.g. if axe drops, melee class has that option not a wizard. * - Create a personal loot setting for the player where they can choose to auto pick up rares directly and put it into their inventory without the fear of being ninja'd. And if there is no room in inventory then follow through with alternative solutions. keep em coming all. Let's push for a better loot system. The Good the Bad & the Ugly

The system is fine for hardcore players who run in tight groups and share loot. Absolutely useless in random groups. Thieving bastards should hang. |

how about making the loot invisible for others until timer runs out!?
but timer should be a little longer. Very often i cant pick it up when clicking on it because of lag or hell i know what other reason. In higher levels almost every other player steals as much as he can. Zero solidarity, no -100 |

It's not ninjalooting, if player takes items, marked free for all. If the timer is expanded its free for all. Timer don't say, its for player x, it says, player x could take it first, if he catch it in time.
And no, I don't play in groups. I don't defend the lootsystem. I just think, it's not helpful to blame people to be ninjalooters, if they didn't cross the rules of looting. I think, loottimer should just raised, so everyone can take the stuff. But perhaps GGG should just exclude the formerly marked player to pick up the item, after the timer runs out. He had his chance, he didn't take it. Why? He couldn't blame anymore the other players for getting the item, that was marked for him. |

Edit: something should be done about players leaving a group to go loot far off chests (such that any timer doesn't matter) Want to Fix the Economy, Bad Loot, Trade and Legacy PvP? pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/548056 Open Letter to Qarl on Crafting Value pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/805434 Biggest Problem with Mapping: Inconsistent Risk to Reward pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/612507 Last edited by Veta321#3815 on Jan 30, 2013, 10:51:59 AM
