Weapon elemental damage?
I had the weapon elemental support gem drop today and I'm not exactly sure what it does, can anyone clarify for me?
It says it adds 65% weapon elemental damage to the supported skill, what are the skills it supports? For instance, will it work with a projectile spell such as spark? |

Well yeah, in poe you put skills in sockets and then you can support them through support gem. Of course you can put wpn ele dmg gem to saprk, spark is doint lighning damage. it depends on your build, but the more ele dmg you got the higher is the effect of the wpn ele dmg gem. that gem is one truly powerful gem.

" Gotcha, so any skill that does elemental damage will be effected by weapon elemental damage? What is the difference between it and just plain elemental damage? |

Weapon Elemental Damage covers any non-physical non-chaos damage generated by an "Attack" type action.
So, the gem pairs with any Skill Gem whose tags at the top of the tooltip say "Attack" instead of "Spell" If you socket it alongside, say, Glacial hammer, then when you cast Glacial Hammer: - Glacial Hammer will convert some of your physical attack damage into Cold, and then the Weapon Elemental Damage boost will increase that cold damage being dealt. - The +1-4 Fire Damage on your weapon will be boosted. - The +1-5 Lightning Damage enchantment on your ring applies its damage directly to your Weapon Attacks, and so it is also boosted. - The +6-9 Lightning Damage buff from your friend nearby with the Wrath aura active will be boosted. If you're using Infernal Blow, the explosion from an enemy dying by it will apparently NOT be boosted. I guess that portion counts as a triggered Spell. Fireball won't get any benefit, because it is tagged as a "Spell", not "Attack" I could be wrong though! Mechanics and programming are messy. |

" Ok, that makes sense. So for wand, I'd need something like power siphon for it to trigger. Do you know of any other wand skills that qualify as attack? |

Yes, i wanted to answer that there is weapon elemental damage and spell damage. Basicly every skill you link with wed-gem is profiting from it (besides spells). Chompie explained it perfectly. I apologize i got it confused, its really time to sleep now.

I think Elemental Hit (a Dexterity skill) can be used with any weapon- ranged, melee, wands, unarmed.. And that's a good candidate for the gem, since the skill's entire purpose is "Attack but with a random element slapped on!"
Frenzy should also work, though it doesn't add any elements of its own. |

Little bump.
I've a question related to this gem too. Especially after seeing the last "build of the week". The class is the Scion, with Spectral Throw as the main attack. The weapon is 100% physical (@3:46), but there's a Weapon Elemental Damage support gem on Spectral Throw (@1:48), why ? Since there's no elemental damages here and this gem only boosts the elemental damage "dealt with a weapon" (cf. wiki), i don't see the point. Last edited by Harest#1598 on Oct 25, 2013, 7:50:44 AM

It's probably being used for the stacked integer ele damage on his other gear. e.g. rings, ammys and gloves......
It's free, quit complaining, and just play the game.

The gem adds elemental damage to any non-spell skills dealt with a weapon, i.e. lightning arrow, spectral throw. I didn't give this much thought, but you can think of anything thats boosted by attack speed and not spell cast speed. The weapon itself doesn't have to deal elemental damage, but it's preferable you get the passive of % increase of weapon elemental damage, to increase the flat values of the weapon elemental damage gem
