Donnie Darko and US Political Ideology

So you think voting should be restricted to people with internet access only?
There's always the public library. And virtually every phone has it these days. Keep in mind most big votes would be known about in advance, so you wouldn't have to be continuously streaming; checking the site occasionally should be enough.

But perhaps there would also be a way to have a phone hotline which streams the audio and allows constituents to voice their opinion by pressing a number.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
In Australia, there are two major parties. Slightly left or slightly right which is defined as labor (the working class / unions) or liberal (middle tier income earners and business owners). That might be over simplified but still accurate. There are some greeny environment groups and family / religious groups but they just pick a side and cast their votes in with one of the major players.

Voting is compulsory and most outcomes have been decided in the media before the count happens so in effect, voting is redundant. I don't vote as I don't see the point.

I'd be more inclined to vote if there was a questionnaire you had to complete showing at least cursory knowledge of what your vote represents. It almost seems that a majority of the sheeple vote for whomever their parents voted for.

I had to take this survey a while back.

It seemed odd to me at the time that Obama and Romney were so close at the top right while I was exactly on par with the Dalai Lama.

I have mixed feelings about being introduced to politics. I mean not being ignorant to a major part of society is great. But being aggravated on nearly a daily basis by everything and everyone else on this "spectrum" gets tiring.

The device is believed to have been dropped
yup you figured it out. This is true of all politics though not just American.

I never related it to Donnie Darko like that though. Was an interesting perspective.

Nope.
I disagree with a direct democracy fueled by modern information technology. The thought that the overall population might vote in critical situations for the "best" outcome is fear inducing to me. One can never supply enough information in advance to a vote to prepare the population for decisions experts should discuss in the first place. These experts can come from many places, be it an actual working background or an educational one. Letting the population of general finance specialists, aka McDonald's night shift employee, decide on serious issues affecting the whole state would lead to hilarious results. The barrier, being the representative democracy, is needed to veto public reactions fueled by media outlets which are effectively but not entirely controlled.

I welcome inclusion of modern information technology in current political patterns. As an example, you are able to support petitions online in Germany, using a modern web-portal and your ID. https://epetitionen.bundestag.de/

This way the public is able to raise concerns and issues experts will be able to analyze. Imo, it is more important to raise awareness on how you can fuel politics with your thoughts. I was never taught that this website shown existed, which is unfortunate. It is an easy to use platform featuring many interesting discussions. By historical background politics and school are strictly separated in Germany. It is a pain to see the results of general disinterest and unawareness regarding politics in the youth population.

I'm not wearing rose-colored glasses. In an perfect political environment politicians are experts in the area they are administrating. However nothing is perfect, else we would life in an utopia, right?

What's even more scary is that the political left in the United States is virtually non-existant.

That powerpoint is a perfect example. Liberalism is considered "left" only in the United States. In all other parts of the world liberals are considered center right. The real left is socialism (mostly), communism and marxism, which are not even shown on that powerpoint (LOL).
