Dominus is badly implemented

I have problems running this game smooth enough and when fighting Dominus I die like 20x times due to lag and slow pc performance. But it runs great when I play solo even on an older PC like mine. ( To save you a question and time, I refuse to buy a new gaming PC because I'm more into console gaming in the last 3 years. I play only oldschool games from my time like Baldurs Gate, System shock, Deux ex etc and this pc serves well for old games like these )
But yeah, maybe he is badly implemented because on my friends top high end pc this game lags sometimes and also has framedrop issues even if he plays the newest games on full details without having any problems.

Spend $1k on PC upgrade to play a free game? No thanks.

Yeah you are gith and that was one of my points and thoughts aswell.
Have to agree with the lag / desync issues being the major challenge, and frankly this is neither new nor exclusive to Dominus.

First experience with Vaal for me was to drop dead constantly without him even being on screen, then two seconds later spawning next to my corpse doing his smash animation. Piety? Zergfest, I would die around 20 times per fight because while I was happily clubbing her she'd suddenly be behind me with my health dropping instantly. For each of the fights, a few patches later the issues magically resolved and I could pretty much faceroll both.

With Dominus, my FPS is actually decent even during his blood rain thingy. My ping is pretty much constantly below 60, and yet I know I don't even have to enter the fight without at least 15 portal scrolls.

"You have died."
"Wait, what? How?"
"THE TOUCH OF GOD"
"Ah."

No matter how you turn it, some bosses will simply cause incredible desync - most notably the warden type miniboss in the descent races, and I've found dozens of players sharing that experience. You can still try to explain that with latency, but honestly I consider bad server-side coding way more likely at this point.
It is badly implemented, but for a reason not mentioned.

There are a few fights in PoE with 1-shots in them, sync is the kicker in these fights.
So especially at map level where we have additional mods, a 1-shot death due to either you or the boss being at vastly different locations on the server and client, or the boss 1-shot being severely out of time on the server and client isn't uncommon.

But in all these fights we have a single boss (or two if double boss mod) who is going to 1-shot you. A single entity to watch, to look for signs of sync issues, to stay clear of.

This is the reason the Dom encounters were badly implemented, or even designed. With the mark on you, undying summons can and will one shot you. Not only is there Dom porting about, appearing right on top of you, with a telegraphed 1-shot that is rarely in sync and sometimes well out of sync in position, telegraph, timing and audio.. but there is a constant flow of potential 1-shot undying running about.

These adds can be quite quick, especially in maps with like 35% speed, are constantly spawning and are all over the fucking place, path clashing and desyncing constantly.

Having a single entity that can 1-shot you in PoE is bad enough design considering the atrocious sync, but numerous is plain unacceptable design, for a released game.
Casually casual.

Those are some very well written points, Caessa, I will really look forward to seeing what the kind folks at GGG will say to address this :P.

Probably nothing. Right now, as long as they don't start down the horrible path of power creeping I guess we can consider ourselves fortunate.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a rebalancing of Cruel+Merciless Sceptre (including Dominus) before long. Not saying it'll happen, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I hope so.

At least for cruel which is a real advancement stopper.

Isn't merciless going out anyway as soon as Chapter 4 is released?

The problem is the weather effects.
Not just the rain, like in docks, but the splash.
The art/effects guy (Russell) has acknowledged this as an issue, but don't hold your breathe for a fix.

Yeah I read that post. That was the first moment I really started to get annoyed and found myself heavily disagreeing with some of GGG's views about the game.

Arctic Armor and Tempest Shield works nicely for the titty bitches in the 2nd form fight.

They basically kill themselves.

PoE optimization is non-existant. I have a very high end pc (i5-4670k, gtx 770, 16GB of ram, SSD drive etc). Standing in town just after logging in into the game gives me about 250-300 fps on all ultra and max settings.
After couple minutes (without even moving) it decreases. Just over time the FPS goes down. It doesnt matter if my instance is empty or loaded with players, FPS just goes down, below 100!

Funniest part of it is... Opening a chat window. This thing DEVOURS your FPS, like 50FPS at a time.

Chat closed? np, 150-200-300 fps
Chat open? NOPE, 70 is the best you can have ._.

If you're struggling with FPS, CLOSE trade and global.
FPS is my issue with dominus fight as well. Other than that, I'm quite alright

Dominus is the worst boss fight experience I've had in any game I've ever played, and it's mainly because of the performance problem. If my framerate throughout the Dominus fight was about what I get in the Piety fight, I'd be fine with it.

Honestly his first form can use a nerf too. Mainly just the lightning bugs, as they do absurd damage in Cruel, and I desynced one time and died with a melee char that pretty much tanked everything else.

Everything else I agree with, the frames aren't so bad for me, but they still suck considering I can run Planetside 2 maxed out 60 fps.
