Fear and the noob

Hello fellow Wraeclastians,
Been playing POE for a couple of weeks now and having a blast. I finally got over the fear hurdle and made my first trade and a few days later my first sale. I know for the veteran/pro players trading and selling is nothing, but for new players it may be intimidating. Just wanted to encourage new players to not let fear immobilize you from action.

You really only need 2 basic tools for efficient trading/selling:.

Procurement (software for making your store/forum post)
poe.xyz.is (consolidates all the trading forums post to easily searchable)

imho: poe.xyz.is + procurement = Social Auction House..... Just sayin

Remember that even the pro players were noobs once!

Thank you GGG for your hard work and a great game!

I agree. Do a little research and get a comfortable price for you. Remember there is always another deal around the corner. :)

Well you also need to know values of items. Yday someone wanted 20 chaos for a 85 life 40 light res 300 armor belt :/ then bought another one a little better for 5 chaoses :/

If you don't know how to price and items and/or orbs ratio, you're going to be scammed for sure, trading in this game requires a bit of haggle and pricing skills, like in D2
Sigh! PoE has become another arpg commodity trading game. Damn, I quit D3 last year for the lack of good loot drops and required use of AH to gear up for Inferno. Now it looks like GGG is following in the wake of the D3 disaster with trading required to gear up for Merciless Dominus and end game maps. Strange move by GGG considering all the D3 crappy loot drops at level 60, AH failure, rampant inflation, and why the other Wilson got canned and now D3:RoS preliminary info indicates Blizzard is buffing loot drop quality by 50% and wants RoH to be played more Self-Found or Self-Crafted first and having to use the AH as a last resort. IMHO that is a great move by Blizzard and I applaud their efforts to cut down on the need to be an arpg commodity broker and keep track of what the currency exchange rates are. This is the most boring part of any arpg and should definitely be relegated to the bottom of the list of ways to gear up better for the higher levels.

Do we play PoE so we can sit in trade chat and buy low/sell high all day (and feed the inflation machine)? Most will say no, yet GGG (and Blizzard does/did? won't know for sure until RoH is out) continue to insist that trading is integral to playing an arpg. I'm not saying trading should be completely eliminated but it should definitely be used only as a last resort.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

The perfect solution to fix Trade Chat:

I like the way people say you 'only' have to use 2 third party applications/websites + a forum to trade like that somehow is reasonable in 2014. Yes I'm sure people are capable of doing it but it excludes 99% of people which I suspect the other 1% are quite happy about

This. THis is the first and most important thing new players need to learn. I remember when I first started all of the currency was so overwhelming and I couldnt imagine ever memorizing the ratios of what everything was worth. But after some time playing and learning more and more each day, it will get better. I remember always googling "POE Currency Ratios" to find a list of the current ones, but most of the time the ratios are going to be for standard's economy. Either way, it will give you a good sense of what stuff is worth. Good luck out there and enjoy!

Reads like a sales pitch.

how does that exclude 99% of people? the indexer websites are free and available to anyone

Using external applications/websites in a computer game to do a basic function like trade in a game based on trade? . I work in IT and I certainly can do this but I do that for a job why the hell would I want to do that for entertainment.

Making things hard for the sake of it is never a good thing unless you deliberately want to exclude others.

Any trade system that takes more than 10 seconds to buy/sell something from within the game is pitiful
