Is desync still an issue?

Here's the latest news on desync http://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/1u1lyq/some_facts_and_details_about_desync_sparked_by/cegw7uz?context=3

So it will be improved "soon". It's still an issue but not as deadly as everyone makes it out to be. Definitely the game's biggest flaw.

Even when using desync-prone skills, it doesn't hinder me too much. I think some of it is conflated, blaming "desync" when in fact it's something else, like plain-old lag. I also think it has a lot to do with the computer/ISP you have - I have a pretty damn good computer and a fairly reliable ISP, so I've noticed I have a lot smoother of a time than many people say they have. (I don't use any macros)

I'd recommend playing again if you enjoy it, test out how much it impacts you. If you can hack it while still having fun, play on - it's a video game, it's meant to be fun.

GGG knows that it's an issue, and they are working on ways to help alleviate it, but it will always be there, because the combat system they have in place (accuracy, enemy collision, etc.) makes it impossible to do a lot of things that other ARPGs can do to reduce it.

What the fuck is the point of having all these mechanics if they never go to use? I.E; oh I'm going to dodge this guy's attack as he swings at me by using whirling blades to get out the way...nope, desync'd back into it and you end up getting hit MULTIPLE times because you're not in sync with the server and you end up dying.

I do agree, a LOT of people blame desync for a death when that's not what actually happens, it's a really easy excuse to use. But I'm not blind, and I got no problem admitting when I make a stupid mistake that gets me killed. I don't alt+f4, that's a cheap way to play and should NOT be an option to playing a damn aRPG. That's sad.

Maybe they need to pick the brains of the people that made d2/d3/marvel because desync wasn't in that so they must have been defying the laws of physics for years now!

You desync in D3. Anyone serious about ARPG knows what desync is and why it is limited in D3 comapred to PoE. GGG has gone to great lengths to explain why desync happens and will remain in the game and their attempts to limit it, while it will most likely never vanish.

If anyone bothered to read GGG's explanation they most likely have been greatly enlightened and understand enough to try to do their best to ignore desync.

And as RulerofAsgard just said.. Lag =/= desync but you are more likely to desync if you are playing at 200-500 latency all day. You can straight up lag and die as you can with any online game desync or no desync.

I also have a nice computer and never break over the 50-60 ping mark and capping out 60+ fps on max settings.

So I guess PoE is now P2W?

No.

I don't desync in D3, ever. I know the difference from a lag spike to a desync too. I wouldn't know about playing with a 200-300ms ping since I play with a 20ms to D3 and a 50ms to PoE. I can see how people would confuse desync with lag if they were playing with such high latency.

Play PoE in mid/max settings @ 144fps and the same with D3 (144hz monitor ftw so the game runs super smooth).
I desync regularly playing a blink striker. Otherwise it's extremely rare for me.

As the title says - is desync still an issue that appears a lot? I stopped playing months ago (during beta) when daily tons of chars died due to desync but I'd like to try again if it's fixed or atleast lowered...

Desync's still there. Lost 50% of my xp in one week on my level 81 char thanks to it

The question of "do you experience a lot of desync?" must be coupled with "do you play a movement skill based character?".

The most "fun" skills cause a lot of desync. So if you want to play the "fun" (my opinion, of course) skills, you have to just suck it up and accept desync as a "feature" of the game.

Cyclone FTW!
Many lewt.
Much desync.
Such rewarding.
Wow.
According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew?
Yes, but it's not a big issue if you know how to avoid it. Cyclone is the only build which I'd avoid because of desync. With my flicker strike/whirling blade/dual strike char I didn't even use /oos and did fine.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

I've had few issues with flicker, but cyclone desync is still rampant.
This does not stop me from playing whirlwind cyclone. /best.skill.ever

why not just pull the offending content from the game ?

Ooops there goes a lot of the meat and potatoes.

Considering mobs themselves and surroundings, not to mention skills are a good source of desync protein.

let's all play the reduce desync game....
