1.3 [Newbie Friendly] GROUNDSLAMMER BUILD

Your equipment looks ok. Hmm... Do you have problems with certain monsters, or you just die everywhere?


1. Merciless Viability
This build builds (sic!) it's defense on mechanics that is used by HardCore Players - Health Regen. I don't see other ways of increasing our defense, as health regen is imho best one. Note that you can't go through Merciless with shit-gear.
I may propose getting better (more health/regen/resistance) gear, and better weapon.

2. Chaos Damage
Chaos Damage is generally bitch. In Closed Beta only defense against it was CI or high health pool. We have this second one. Now we can ALSO build resistances again Chaos. And this i a must. Try to keep 50-75% all resistances in each difficulty.

3. 2H vs 1H
You will probably use Kaom's Hearth unique Armor for additional 1k base health. In such a case you'll need piece of equipment that is possible to get six (hopefully linked) sockets. These are two-handed weapons. Also, we have to deal damage. We won't maintain high damage with one-handed weapon.

5. Mace over other weapon types
Generally you are free to use any weapon type you want. I've chosen maces, because they are simple (only STR required), they have easly reachable damage nodes for our build (which should fir the damage difference between i.e. axes and maces). Note that we do not concentrate on stun thereshold and this isn't thing we consider for mace's superiority.

Resolute Technique and Blood Magic is A MUST. You won't survive without it.

You lack of life. You will die a lot. And don't put that many points into damage nodes. 6% incresed damage is nearly nothing.

Im currently level 39 and been following this build. Really like it alot. Right now I have 1068 dps on my heavy strike and 510 dps on ground slam. Also "only" just under 1000 health but for now that works just fine :) So yet again, thanks for the guide!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand it:
2.Chaos dmg can be dealt with if you have equip with Chaos dmg resistance on it?
3.If I see this correctly, 1H weps don't have that much more attck.speed as 2H and thos is not worht going for it in this build? Plus it saves skill points you don't need to put in for shield correct?
4.I see your point, and if i'm not wrong, I used up less skill points for mace build over Axe build in site Skill point tree. But I still have a question about stun lock tactics, is it worth going for or is it not needed?

Since OpenBeta patch there are different rewards in every difficulty.

If 'Your hits can't be evaded' you can't miss and thus hit 100%. ;)

Your stats and euip are fine.
Maybe you just need some training to master the Mara gameplay.
Chek youtube for some skilled gameplay and try to adopt it.

This build went through major and wide mainteance. I've added a lot of new informations, so I suggest to reread it once more! Even Passive Skill Build changed (just a three nodes, but still).

I am totally suprised with attention that this thread makes. We've made 100 posts and 20,000 views in NEARLY ONE DAY! Thank you!

Also from this place I would love to thank all those players who feedbacked my build, what helped me enormously to improve the build. I will wait for more. Guys, you're awesome.

2. Lol, no. I meant damage that is dealt to us by enemies. We can lower it by Chaos Resistance.
3. I don't get you. We need to DEAL some damage. Using 1-handed it will be simply too low, bacause two-haned weapons deal SO MUCH MORE damage. It's not about skill points, but about base weapon damage.
4. Sorry I have no idea, since I never went this rotue. And I don't like to talk about things I didn't experniced empirically. Well. There IS somewhere is Marauder's section Stun-Thereshold-Based-Build. But people commenting it says it is not viable anymore. Also author does not plays any more.

Concerning Iron Reflexes, I'm a bit skeptical of reaching for it myself. It takes 6 points to get there from the southern Troll's Blood cluster. Six points can also double your armor rating with zero node hopping involved. So I guess it's a question of, is your armor rating higher or lower than your evasion rating?

Here's a question: Does Arcane Efficiency affect skills under Blood Magic? Seems like it might be worthwhile to get that 20% cluster to the south when I unspec the Blood Magic keystone and start using Blood Magic augments.

I'm skeptical about iron Reflexes too =]
All in all. With Iron Reflexes you base on Grace, that gives you 1k free evasion rating. With Iron Reflexes this would be converted into 1k armor. With some evasion nodes - even more. With some evasion gear - even more-more. But this is more high-level speculations, when you can play a bit with equipment. At the beginning health based one is much better.

Yes it works. And you are free to use it - I did with Explosive Arrow Build. But - oh well - Ground Slam is low-cost skill, and I don't think you'll need it.
