A sign that the crafting system has failed and that orbs are essentially gold

I love all these people thinking they're refuting the OP by making comparisons between PoE trading and real trading, actually proving the exact point: orbs are essentially gold.

The OP isn't about whether people are smart or stupid for making such trades. The OP is about the simple fact the the primary purpose of orbs has shifted so far from crafting with them that to most people they're nothing more than what gold was in other games.

Any comparisons that involve trading of any kind are only proving that exact point. Orbs are gold and by making such comparisons you're simply proving that you think of them like that as well and not as crafting tools.

I wonder how many of these "The crafting system is broken!" people have ever tried to craft a six-linked item from a blank white using scraps. Maybe my experience is above the curve, but I managed to do it for way under the typical asking price of your average six-linked rare.

I agree

When something is valuble despite having no use to the owner (ie money- scraps of paper), then it becomes gold
For most people, orbs are no more useful than scraps of paper since crafting is for the elite 1% like me

I've put about 250 jewelers into:

About 100 fusings into:

And about 400 fusings into:

And nothing. So yes, your experience is above the curve. Not even one 5L.

Wait, I thought this was already generally accepted?

At the least, they are primarily currency and secondly for low to mid level crafting.

On standard: 20 chaos = 1 exalt, 50 alchs = 1 exalt, 14 regrets = 1 exalt, 2 scourings = 1 regret.

20/50 = .4
20/14 = 1.428/2 = .714
.4+.714 = 1.11

alch + scouring is worth more than a chaos...

Which, as someone pointed out earlier, basically just proves that the op is right and orbs are currency more than anything else /shrug.

orbs shouldn´t be tradeable
What can never be lent or earned?
Somewhat, that devours everyone and everything:
A tree that rush. A bird that sings. It eat bones and smite the hardest stones.
Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings.
What am i?
Crafting has been an abysmal failure for 98% of the players. That is why Chris wants players to TRADE!
Crafting doesn't exist in POE. Gambling does...and the house always wins.

Velocireptile - I LOL'ed. Which made me fart. I wish the office were empty right now :(

Hardlicker - I had to push the dog out of the way so I could get to the sexy quilt.
