Should I level the curses or not? And the auras. I'm confused by what people say on the forums...

You should know better than someone else for your personal character... If your mana can't handle higher level x y z, then don't level x y z up? If it can, then go figure.

Can I Swap out Ice Spear for Freezing Pulse on my totems? Would it still work out ?

Is the Spectre CI build viable for hardcore or no?

Freezing Pulse doesn't have the range that Ice Spear has. Ranged would basically take down ur totems constantly.

Can anyone answer my question about CI spectre build in hardcore? I need to know because i'm afraid to put points in and dying.

On 6-L..

Ice Spear - Spell Totem - GMP - Faster Casting - Inc. Critical Damage

on the 6th slot.. Added Chaos Dmg, Cold Penetration or Faster Projectiles, Reduced Mana maybe??

Faster Casting, Increased Crit Damage, Cold Penetration should be your three "optional" slots on a 6l for Ice Spear Totem.

Once again, in order of socket #:
1. Spell Totem
2. Ice Spear
3. LMP/GMP (preference)
4. Faster Casting
5. Increased Crit Damage
6. Cold Penetration

This will give you the most damage. Numbers 5 and 6 are almost interchangeable, depending on the passive nodes you have taken and what curses you run.

I was looking for a way to increase the dps effectiveness of my totems as well and thought about using cold penetration in place of lower mana cost. Is it a real dps booster in your opinion?

Also how do you find using lmp instead of gmp (I know it's more dps, but what about the survivability since you are cc'ing a bit less)?

If you had a 5l chest instead of a 6l, which support would you leave out? Cold pen or crit dmg?

Also, in your opinion is frostbite + crit weakness better than frostbite + elemental weakness (especially if you went crit dmg in the previous scenario)?



Level 69 here, and I would also like to thank you Hypershatter for this very nice guide. :)

On my earlier chest which was a 5l I used cold pen instead of crit damage. A 35% cold pen gem is a flat additive 35% dps increase (not shown in dps screen) except against monsters with very high resistances or resistances stacked above 75%, against those mobs cold pen is even stronger. Like 4 times stronger or something.


Lets say you meat a zombie or a map with 75% cold res, your 1000 dps will do 250 dps. With only 25% penetration (or 25% lower resist curse if mobs dont got stacked resistances) you will do 100% more dps then without it.. ie 500 dps instead of 250.

Imo, anyone should use penetration in their link. Its very good in addition to lower res curses and against mobs with stacked resistances which lower res curse dont do anything on, cold pen is a must/imba as hell because it ignores any res stack above 75%.

Im not sure if double resist curses is better or worse the frost bite and crit weakness though
