Build of the Week Video #9

I'm really curious about the DPS, too bad you didn't show it in the video.

Chris really should have, in order to justify the "bug fixes" -- the DPS is insane. Someone has 21k dps with facebreaker right now, and I'm sure it can go even higher.

I should clarify that the two things we're changing are both basically bug fixes. Having weapon elemental damage or quivers affect unarmed attacks wasn't really intended.

I shouldn't have used the word "nerf" in the video, judging by the youtube comments :P

Don't care about the youtube commenters.

I've been playing League of Legends for two years before I quit, exactly because they became so quantity-oriented with the dozens of new champions that the don't seem to care much for the balance in the game. Also I'm very discouraged by how they handle critique and problems (usually with a very diplomatic-sounding message that means nothing).

One of the resons why I really love the PoE community is that you get proper answers for your questions and you can see in every update that problems are being adressed. Also I can see how much thought you've put into all aspects of the game (skill tree, orbs, defense stats etc.) Bonus praise: I love the currency system.

A lot of people can't comprehend the concept that if the game is broken (unbalanced) no one will enjoy it in the end because you either abuse the system or get owned by the players who do.

Even though I'm more in the art department, I plan on working in the game industry and PoE is one of the few games that give me hope - there is a lot of new, unique and interesting directions an ARPG game can take.

I'm not sure if I was 73 or 74 in that video.

GGG has forgotten where they came from. As a result, I no longer support the deceitful, corporate Tencent slave sellouts running this game.

That's my personal thread about this build.

And the build really is a load of fun!

Ah, somebody that understands what a terribly unbalanced game LoL is! How very strange.

It wasn't always as bad as it is now.
No, it's always been bad. I used to make threads about its balance when it launched from beta. And the same issues I spoke about from the very beginning - flash for one - were ignored completely, despite being a thousand times worse today.

And then we had the misfortune of having Shurelia - who liked to "nuke nerf" characters like Taric and Evelynn just because it struck her fancy at the time. Nevermind her arbitrary support ideas. And lol, Sona, her abomination? Why hire a person like that for game design - she clearly didn't have an ounce of theory in her.

I've been thoroughly impressed by Chris and the rest of the designers here. Nevermind the good game design in potions, maps, and other systems, but so far game balance has been pretty smart. I agree with these "bug fixes" - quivers should not boost melee weapons; it's unintuitive. And there should be a standardization of how unarmed damage works. It should have gone in when they introduced facebreaker.

LoL balance is musical chairs. The developers buff the hell out of something, then nerf it back two patches later. Look at Mundo or Jax or Pantheon... I gave up on the game completely; it's just too frustrating to develop a build and then have it invalidated in a month. Or to have some broken champion released every week and lose 100 ELO from trolling team members who like to stack Malady.

LoL's core design is flawed, from its itemization to its champions. You'd think balancing 10 of the same champion repeated 4 times would be easy...

You know what they need to do? Go onto bnet right now and hire some of the people who still develop maps for WC3. There are people utilizing that great engine who know what they're doing. I still find most WC3 maps more fun than I ever did find LoL. Look at all the wasted time and development on Dominion - a watered down, lame game mode. I could name 10 old WC3 maps off the top of my head with amazing gameplay.
