(I'm not dead) Just patiently biding my time untill release :) Also GW2 Releases today.

Oh man, nexon involved with cash shop items for guild wars 2. I can see guild wars 2 becoming vindictus some way. /sarcasm

The cash shop items are just "cosmetic" items ,
and I don't see what's the problem with it.

These days players like to spend 10$ to have his character look nicer and cooler.

I haven't played beta of GW2 but I will get my copy in few days and planning to play almost PvE as casual maybe 8-12 hours a week ....I just need something to alternate with PoE.

I wont expect to much from GW2 , but I have played the first one and I tink atm is the best mmo out there
im in gw2

Wait, Guild Wars 2 has a cash shop? I really don't understand how a game that costs money to buy, also asks for money from a cash shop. That just strikes me as really greedy, and it's one of the things that infuriates me about Diablo 3. How can you charge $60 and then ALSO expect people to pay money for virtual items too.

If a game has a cash shop, it should be free to play.
GW2's P2W model is such a turn off

Also Tera did a much better job on attempting "real combat" or whatever they are calling it now.

Been playing GW2 this weekend and I have to agree with you. It is much more than "just" cosmetic stuff. I got a chest which supposedly contains, "A random tool, a random buff, and a random stack of tonics". I need a key to open it though which I have to spend about $1.56 real money to get.

I would MUCH rather pay WoW's token monthly fee and not have to deal with that shit. And, I suspect that it is very easy to quickly spend more than what a monthly fee would be.

It's a nice enough game with some cool mechanics, but this may ultimately doom the game for me and in the U.S. market (it will probably do fine in Asia, as that model works well there, and NCSoft is a Korean company afterall).

In the end, probably just a mild diversion between PoE patches/releases.

The cash shop buffs in Gw2 don't bother me in the slightest. They confer no competitive advantage (since you're scaled to level 80 the moment you PvP anyway), and indeed you're always scaled down to your pve area -- so really, all those bonuses do is shorten the time you'll send playing PvE to 80.

If you want to take that shortcut and cheapen the experience, be my guest. It doesn't affect me at all.

edit: those keys are also random drops and quest rewards, from memory.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I heard there's a way to obtain (well, saw a screen shot of it too) 110% critical strike chance in GW2 using some cash shop bonus. Sounds kind of broken to me, unless critical strikes aren't a big deal in the game.

And after watching Kripp's video on youtube on it... it doesn't seem like that fun of a game. It just looks like WoW with less carefully crafted quest content and more zerging. But enjoy your game or whatever -- I just don't like how popular games like it become, because it negatively effects the games I tend to play (look at how WOW's success has impacted RPGs).

All the buffs you get from the chests and store in GW2 only work in PvE, they are not active in PvP. The only buffs that are active in PvP are the ones you or team mates apply with class skills or just the suff attached to your gear from standard game and class standard perks and skills you have unlocked, again through gameplay.

The shop will only help you if you really want to look different or you want to power through the PvE as fast as you can.

Me I like PvE so I will just stay clear of the whole shop buffs though I may get some cosmetic gear from it.

The keys for the chests are rewards and also found in the world. Only reason to buy a key is if you are so impatient you just can't wait to get one free.

The shop is optional and they are giving away a free hat for your casual wear outfit, lol. For a short time anyway.
Not only that, but the chests only contain cash shop and cosmetic items...

I've opened about 4 of the chests so far (all keys found or rewards from quests, haven't purchased anything in the cash shop) and all you get are some little potions that turn your character model into a monster model for a short time, random cash shop boosts (like exp and crafting boost. Again, they only work in PvE, not PvP or WvW), and in one of the chests I got 10 top tier mining picks. Not exactly game breaking when a stack of 100 top tier mining picks is something like 20 silver from an npc vendor.

My character either just hit 20 or is really close to 20. I haven't used any of the boosts yet, and haven't really seen a reason to. The game is too much fun to want to skip through parts of it by boosting your exp gain.
