Chaos vs Scour + Alch

Instead of questioning why people are foolish, you should channel that energy into exploiting them mercilessly, like I do.

You can probably convert 10 chaos into 20 alcs and 20 scourings if you try hard enough. That's worth an extra few clicks on my maps/items to me.

Orb value isn't a reflection of functionality, but of supply, because their primary use is currency. The drop rates and extreme RNG nature of crafting preclude much other use. Scours are vendor obtainable, so they're valued lower. Alchs are also fairly easily vendor attainable. Chaos are less so.
No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.

Shags also hits on another subtle point.

If I am asked to accept 1 Alchemy and 1 Scour in lieu of a Chaos, I would be inclined to accept it. I occasionally have a use for a scour and alchemy, so it's not a big deal.

But, if you want me to accept 30 Alchemy and 30 Scour in lieu of 30 Chaos? No freaking way. What the hell am I going to do with 30 Alchemy and 30 Scour? I might use one or two of them, but I would just be stuck trying to find someone to trade the rest of them for chaos.

Now if you offered me 32 or 33 Alc+Scour, then I might think about it.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH 30 CHAOS?!

I liked trading in this game better before people started trying to use orbs like dollars and cents......

Not sure if trolling.......
You hit the nail on the head. Chaos is more valuable as a currency item than as a crafting item, to the point that you should NEVER chaos an item. You should ALWAYS alch/scour when crafting maps or anything else.

You said you would have use for the occasional scour alch, but not 30. What difference does the amount have if you have 30 chaos or 30 scour + alchs. they do exaltly the same thing.

The question i am trying to understand is. Why do you need to trade them to chaos?
Because people use Chaos as a main Currency when trading, and will NOT accept anything lower [usually]. Thus you'd be forced to convert to Chaos [or higher Currency] if you wished to trade with one of those individuals.

Yes, I agree that is what happens. But my question is why (there is no logic here, that is what confuses me). There is usually logic behind economies. Exalts are expensive because they are so rare. But the rarity of a chaos is almost the same as scour + alch.

The effect you are describing above is if I own a store and I want to sell this pizza for $20. And I tell the buyer no I can't take 2x tens, I only except twenty dollar bills.

The logic is: since so many people do not accept alch+scouring as trading currency, it becomes risky to accept them as payment. So they rather choose to reduce risk by accepting chaos as payment.

Of course, that doesn't explain how alch+scouring became inferior to chaos as trading currency in the first place, but given that it is this way, the only rational choice is to accept chaos as payment.

Or you can think of it like being paid in $1 Coins instead of dollar bills. Would you rather, as a business owner, be paid 3 dollars or 3 dollar coins?

You won't be able to give the coins as change should another customer come in. You'd be forced to either use it yourself, or have to go to the bank to exchange it.

Which is exactly the case here.

PS. I can say in all honesty that I have NEVER used a Chaos Orb in the 5 months I've been playing, or Scour+Alch. I've only used them as Currency, mostly trading them into GCP or Exalteds.

I like trading my chaos/gcps for like 3 or 14 alchemies.

Makes map rerolling cheaper.
