(another) Frustrated D3 player coming to try PoE

i think the community is pretty good, Id agree though that its best to play and come to love the game on its own before reading too much waffle from other people who also love the game but have an issue with certain aspects. Its easy to lose perspective and forget this is already probably the best arpg, certainly since D2, imo of all time.

There will be bugs, deal with that in your head right now and I think everything will be fine. Youve come at a good time, by the time half the crap were all moaning about even effects you it will probably be well on its way to being fixed.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
I also game from d3 last August and started playing PoE during closed beta.

Haven't looked back since.

Hope you enjoy PoE.
Welcome to PoE! I think you'll love the game if you enjoyed D2/D3. I'm not necessarily a D3 despiser, but haven't gone back in a long while. The stash just wasn't roomy enough for my preferred playstyle. The limits on everything really got to me, only this many items on the AH, that many on the RMAH, here's your character slots, etc. PoE provides so much more breathing room to be a packrat and alt-aholic. =)

I have to (pleasantly ;) disagree about the community, though. I have met so many intelligent, friendly, avid gamers. Instead of saying the community is dreadful, I lean to believing there may be an RNG at work in who you meet but also in one's approach. If you expect to meet good people, there seems to be no shortage of them in PoE to meet. (There are some reprobates, sure, but they're being mean out there where the bell curve flattens out. :)

Hope you quickly make a home in Wraeclast and find yourself spending many hours leveling and looting!
If you have any important questions that your having trouble getting answered send me a PM and I'll be glad to help. Its good to see more people leave that other game for something as special as PoE.
Standard Forever
Play up a few classes or different style builds of your favorite classes a few levels, save up some orbs, get a feel for the system and mechanics, make some mistakes, have fun figuring out how to overcome the mistakes you make.

Learning about the game can be as much fun as playing the game, if you enjoy that aspect.

So much to do and try. Hope you have as much fun as I've been having.

Welcome to Wraeclast!
Welcome to our community! Be sure to check out youtube videos, the Path of Exile wiki, Reddit's Path of Exile section, and the class forums. Global Chat is horrible in any game but you can meet good people in parties.

I recommend Anarchy League to start out with (PoE's treasure goblins fight back!) and try the races (Ancestrial / Descent are my favorite).

If you have questions / need help add 'Digikam' to friends and good luck!
Global chat is hit or miss for some people, i like the comedy factor of it sometimes. As for trading, people are turbo-jews, but on the bright side, the nature of the economy prevents things from getting out of hand with inflation like a lot of games do. even if people are botting, more items = more orbs being used/found/traded equivalently = currency stays valuable no matter what.

Also, it's freakin' addicting to stockpile up wealth.

i quit the game at level 40 because my skill trees were screwed because "first character syndrome". was too lazy to level another one [my fault, not the games] so i quit. came back a few months later and found a full skill tree reset waiting for me, so now im back in full swing.

Overall? Way better than diablo 3. the combat system [only good thing about d3] isn't as crazy since it's still beta, but its such an overall well rounded game, it's 100000x better than d3 ever was. Almost as fun as D2 was back in the day, I'd go as far to say.

TwilyTwilyTwily - level 61 dual wield duelist [level 40 2 days ago, been playing nonstop]

P.S dont expect to get much out of playing hardcore. you will die at some point because of desync or lag. it's unavoidable.

If you have been playing D3 since launch up until now, then I think you have gotten way more than your money worth out of it. That being said, your posts makes it seem as if you did not enjoy the game when obviously you did to have put up with it for this long.
GGG listens to its fans!!! Thank you!

Also left diablow 3 and haven't looked back. Check out the class forums for build/mechanics advice this game actually lets you make choices unlike D3.

Turn global chat on for lulz (and yes sometimes ingame help)
Turn it off to have fun experimenting on your own.

Also partying in this game is FUN
