Please, give us a real auto attack (auto target)

You know, when you have that odd moment and want to play a true melee (the type that has to be close to stuff in order to kill it) and find that, when you are surrounded, you have to actually CLICK on the monster in order to attack it.

The other day I wanted to make a frenzy/melee splash build and was a pain in the ass.

You are surrounded, the screen is cluttered with graphical effects and you, you must click RIGHT on top of the monster in order to attack it. I found myself running AROUND the monsters most of the time, simply because I couldn't see exactly where the monster is, either because of desync or because of visual clutter.

So the result situation was rather hilarious - myself, surrounded by baddies, and instead of pounding them, running around them. Not kiting them, but moving from their one side to the other, because you try to click on the monster, but instead you click right next to it, and you just move around it, your character rubbing himself on the monster and taking damage while doing it, since you are in melee range.

Now as most ARPG fans, I've played Diablo3 and it had a nice system for the right mouse button. You hold it down and your character moves, but at the same time automatically attacks a monster when it comes in melee range. That system was brilliant.

Now some might say, "Why not hold shift and attack?" - well those people obviously haven't played melee much. When you hold shift and just click, you still have to click right on the monster, because otherwise, you end up swinging in the air not hitting anything, and that is basically the same as running around it. NOTE: Cleave, sweep and all the other AoE attack are not affected by this issue! So stop saying, "L2P. My ele cleave has no problem with that."

So GGG guys, please, can we have an intelligent melee autoattack function that doesn't require us to constantly click on highly mobile monsters in the chaos of graphical clutter just to attack them?

You know, melee being the more dangerous route to approach content, and not having autoattack is pretty discouraging :(

euhm, you know you can bind your attacks to left click?

Would you also like an auto-item pickup and an auto-movement function?

Perhaps simply remove all manual commands and just press "enter" and your char starts facerolling everything?

Sounds fun bro.

No, I do not want an auto faceroll command.

I simply want when I click and hold my attack button, my melee character to walk AND attack whatever enemy he meets.

That would be enough.

All he wants is an attack-move command, one of the most common and simplest commands.

I agree with OP, it would be very useful, especially for facebreaker style builds.

The ability to auto-engage is quite powerful.

It's more of a lack of comfort. When I shift-click every third hit fails.

I guess D3 had the mechanic he describes. And it felt really good, just pressing the right mouse key, you move till you reach an enemy, then start attacking. loved it :)
what he describes is entirely possible. I play ele cleave mara and have cleave bound to rightclick, my mara walks to the mob and when in range attacks, with knockback on from flask (keeping rc down) my mara walks, attacks, walks, attacks, like the above guy said, its namelocked all you need to do is keep rightclick pressed. It works especially well if you have a quicksilver flask, and take increased area of effect nodes from templar area, those really help out.
I think this would be great . atm when you are moving and counter an enemy, be it shift + attack or directly clicking monster, it feels like your whole game stops for a bit then hit enemy. would make gameplay much more smooth and make it feel more fast paced

Shift click - it works.

Just a key to autoselect nearest monster could help i think.
