Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
"The problem with a hard division between instanced and FFA is that it will absolutely break up the community. If you have more gradual changes like FFA, 1 second, 2 seconds, etc. then someone who plays with 2 second timers normally might sometimes play FFA if there don't happen to be any 2-second timer games around at a particular time.[/quote] I don't think this would be any more divisive than what exists right now. Now there are those who enjoy the loot situation and choose to party and those who refuse to party due to the loot situation. I would posit that 900+ pages of back and forth suggests that both sides would have sufficient support to sustain themselves. I may be wrong, but if what everyone says they prefer is to be believed there should be ample population for folks to find a group that suits them in a binary scenario (i.e. instanced or FFA). Of course, that conclusion hinges on people honestly meaning what they've said in here. Don't know how much one can count on that. |

" Better than just having everyone play solo.... |
|
|
please make each player his own visible loot, it solve all loot problems!
|

" yes thats the only viable option. i am not grouping until i have my own loot table which i dont have to share with some idiots that dont support the group but instead run around looking for loot to grab faster than the others do. simple and easy, no group for me with this fu...ed up loot system........ |

" This change will go a long way to making PoE play like D3: -no need (or any benefit whatsoever) to make friends. -no need to stay up front and help fight, as anyone can just follow a screen behind and not miss any loot. Loot tension had a purpose, but it does nothing if everyone can opt out. As a player who really enjoyed the FFA environment, I have no use for FFA as a loot option if I can take the easy way and not have to compete. I see this as a short-term cash out to get more players to play group games and appease the masses coming from d3. And as a long term fail, as it removes much of the excitement that came with loot tension for those that already adjusted to the competition. (oh but we can make friends and play ffa with each other right? no thanks) I agree with you though it should have been done a LONG time ago if they were going to do it. Now they have already missed the bus for so many that tried the game when open beta hit, and many other people would have NEVER contributed to supporting the game if they knew GGG was going to give in on this very important issue. |

" This simply shows that you are NOT a fan of the FFA environment. If you have no use for FFA as an option than YOU DON'T LIKE FFA! Simple as that. Personally I will be enjoying my FFA public games, allocation timers can go to hell! Now, in addition to this I can play instanced loot with friends so everyone wins!! GG GGG! |

The changes to loot allocation in the 0.11.0 patch are a bad idea for narrative reasons (in addition to the surprisingly insightful gameplay reasons cited by EgypZee).
What do I mean by narrative reasons? It's all explained here: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/403189 I'm sorry for people who want this issue to die... but if you think the "bitchfest" is over, mine has just begun. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. " Did you really feel that loot allocation timers 'fit the narrative'? So why are the options bad for narrative reasons? I would say if you wanted to stick with the story and realism or what not then it should be pure FFA and timers never should have existed... however, its a game and needs to be enjoyable to play first and foremost. I will quote Mark from your thread. " |
