" Here is the problem then, you want to play a diffent game. " I enjoy the game. The FFA loot mechanic needs to be dealt with no different then having to killing monsters or avoiding death. Did I enjoy getting one-shotted by HC Brutus in map? Certainly not, but it’s a game mechanic that I must avoid - and strangely, that = fun. Do I enjoy it when some person I invited to my private game snags a unique pair of boots assigned to me a millisecond before I could get them? Heck no! Personally, I would NEVER do that to a stranger. Did I hope that he would die very soon? (always HC here) you bettcha… and he did :-) (ElNino you reading this? – no hard feelings man) " I played public coop games without friends for months; you are not “required” at all. It helps. that is all. It amounts to a slight advantage to those people who make friends and decide to share. Horrible right? " To me this is the definition of boring, Jay Wilson might take issue though. " Seriously, this is exactly what I saw happening in D3 constantly with the instanced system. Do you not hit alt and see what is falling as a boss dies? Are you not ready to click on something with your name on it? Why is everyone else faster that you? When I play public games, I do not expect to get everything before the timer at all. Ever hear of "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”? It’s true here as well. Everyone else is always getting more then you, and better items. It will always seem that way, don’t blame FFA loot for it. There is simply no way to have “loot rules” assignable for a party leader that would not be applied to everyone. It would change the fundamental nature of the game, require all sorts of testing and balancing and ultimately would make PoE much more like D3 then D2. Weather you can see it or not, the loot system affects how people behave, it affects social orders and it is roughly 1/3rd of the game. (you fight, you loot, you chat) it is not just a “convenience issue”. Thats how I see it anyhow and that is why I posted postive feedback for the current system... as imperfect as it is. /edit spelling AGAIN jeesh... |

I pretty much disagree with everything you said but in particular that looting is 1/3 of the game...and chat is another 1/3, lol. FYI D3 isn't the only other ARPG with instanced loot.

" Who are you addressing? I was stating my opinions, feel free to disagree all you like. To another palyer, all we see is what your attacking what your picking up/trading and what you write in chat. My only point here was that looting is like it or not a big part of the game. Did I say d3 was the only game with instanced loot? no. thanks or the correction anyway. |

I appreciate at least that SMRD is being fairly polite with his opinion. I disagree with most all of it but at least we can try to discuss it without being overly emotional. I will love the game regardless but I feel pretty strongly that this game is not really benefiting from being FFA for everyone. I speculate that the majority of players would enjoy the game more with looting options.
I don't think that how we loot needs to be a major part of the game. In theory it looks like GGG wanted it that way but I just don't feel like their vision is succeeding. Too many players appear to either not want to play the pvp mini game or just straight up don't play much multiplayer anyhow. I just don't see a downside to doing it. The D3 comparisons are a bit silly. POE isn't anything like D3 at all. Even with looting options this game will never ever feel like D3. They are different in every major way possible. " ?! In aRPGs PvE is THE core game. Sure a lot of people enjoy PvP and I definitly see it as an important part of the game but you saying "you want to play a different game" just because a lot of people go for PvE only is nonsense. And yes, you are right the loot system strongly affects how people behave. Most people won't even consider playing public games with FFA loot and it also strongly discourages playing with friends, especially end-game runs. |

" Who says? Are you a developer? From my perspective I will always be playing the same game as everyone else. Are the single player fellas playing a different game? " Killing monsters and avoiding death is a mechanic that no one can avoid, and everyone expects when they play. The FFA competition is avoided by most everyone in one way or another. " My point was that without FFA I don't have to "find people to trust" I can play anytime with any player and not have to deal with the FFA issues. Your not required because you enjoy the mechanic whereas I am required because I don't like it at all. " That was probably in a game where those players would simply die repeatedly to the same ridiculously hard elite pack. Luckily this game doesn't suffer from stupid game mechanics like that. No one has an excuse to sit out but its possible they could try on any system so I don't know why instanced or a longer timer would be singled out. By the way are you completely against a slightly longer timer? I don't see how that would break the core game. " As you know it happens to people whether you are ready or not. Especially in gigantic loot explosions from bosses. " I don't see why there couldn't be a league for people like myself. If there was would that ruin the game? Would everyone in the game join that one league? " I would say that getting loot is at least 1/3 of the game. The looting mode itself is of much less importance Standard Forever Last edited by iamstryker#5952 on Dec 14, 2012, 12:21:13 PM

I'm just going to make a statement about the private leagues.
I'm not expecting these to be cheap, or "meant" to be run non-stop. I see them more like races, or for guilds and such. I would be surprised if they were affordable to run an instanced league nonstop. Time will tell I suppose. On the note about longer timers. Add a second to base time if this will stop all of this. Even if this was done, I still dont think people stop. Since some people prefer to kill everything in zone, than go back and loot. Oh and, why does FFA work well in BL2? <---- Actual question |

I would be very happy if they added 1-2 seconds to the base time.
