Chat Channels
persistant chat modes
for example if you use global chat, next time you press enter, automatically uses # for global chat or such, like % for party or @name for last person whispered basically where the #/%/@ sticks to which ever's last used |

If there is any way to evenly divide people randomly in to individual global chat servers, then that would be best. For example, global chat servers 1 - 20 have a random assortment of players, both veterans and new players, that can communicate to help each other out, but still prevent an over clutter of chat.
This option also can easily be adjusted in trafficking by simply adding or removing one of those chat servers. |

Friend Chat: If you're going to be setting up a friend list system.
Newbie Chat: A chat channel for new players to ask questions on, where more experienced players who have that activated are able to supply advice from anywhere. Trade chat is an excellent idea, I would like to see it span every instance of a town (only usable from town), with a way to easily link up with designated players for a trade. An alternative trade to chat (or addition), set up a market area where players can go to trade, make it a larger instance, possibly accessable from every town. Please, oh PLEASE avoid world chat like the plague that it is though.. IMO even 100 players in the same chat is far too many, especially as much as people like to spam. Or if there is some need to implement it, please give us the option to mute it. Also please add a mute list as well, with a very large maximum player count. -EDIT- An afterthought, if you're going to have moderators in-game, how about a channel where players can report cheaters? Lost in a wonderful world of VGM covers. Last edited by Wickedry#6274 on Sep 1, 2011, 3:48:33 PM

Nth-ing trade chat, so long as it's easy to trade with whoever you're chatting with.
Named channels: The idea behind this would be to able to join a channel by entering the name of it, like "mycoolchatchannel". This would give players that are not in the same party a way of communicating as a group, without having to talk to their entire guild, etc. The idea here is to keep communication open between friends when in-game interests are not necessarily aligned. They're going to be doing it anyway outside of the game, so why not give them a chance to do it in-game. An opt-in world chat (think Warcraft 3, where you can join different themed public channels, and then you end up in "Night Elves Cove #37". It's a good way to meet people, or ask questions and get real-time responses when none of your friends are around. It's also a good way of allowing players of different levels to interact. Newbies like to ask high levels questions, and some people like to help newbies. There should be a hard limit to the number of players per channel, and when that limit is reached begin throwing players into overflow channels of the same name (or theme). | |
If there exist something like friends guild, could be great. If possible, integrating palyers by account (not name players), because this way you don't need to have space for every character a guy has. As soon as you got his account, his bounded to your friends list and chat.
That is useful too because you can have friends inside your guild and out of your guild, and talking in friends chat could work for all. I hope this will be something like the old /f m fom Diablo, but easier (a friends account chat). IGN: Gonorreitor

Are you going to be able to Shout? i still have not got a beta key yet. so I am not sure. Any type chat is ok in my opionon as long as people do not spam, and you can turn them off and on in menu. If you do not want to here it. you can just turn it off.

You know, I once considered this idea being part of an mmorpg...
Here's the idea: Have an inbuilt VOIP system in place in the game... allow people to chat with one another verbally ingame. HOWEVER, Limit the distance in which your VOIP sound can travel, like how sound tends to drop over distance in real life. i.e. People who are further away from you will not be able to hear from you better. People closer to you will get a louder sound from your VOIP. And VOIP will work just like that. There will be no channels for that, you won't be able to VOIP someone in another act (like private chat). So if you want to speak to someone personally, you'll have to walk close to them. Positioning hence... will become important in communication. Want to complain to a party leader that a team member is useless or being a ninja? Walk over next to him and whisper into your mic. The other party member will not be able to hear you. Want to shout war cries to amuse the rest of your party members when you charge into battle? (Leeroy Jenkins) Also possible. Cursing and swearing when you get killed in a town in a cut-throat league? Someone might over hear you and decide to help you out with the guy who killed you. Possibilities are endless because it makes the communication aspect of the game an aspect that is player determined allowing it to develop in ways you'd never expect. "Modal interfaces tend to create mistakes. The mode outlasts your attention span, which is only a couple of seconds if you are distracted, e.g. by combat or a cup of coffee. The next time you chat you're likely talking to the wrong crowd accidentally. It's the same as with caps-lock. I bet everyone has been annoyed by caps-lock being activated more than once. There are many ways to die, but only one way to live!
