Is this game completely free?

It's all in what you're selling. Account "options" like spell effects, dyes, storage etc thats the way to go. I think GGG will make plenty of their planned model.

If I enjoy the game I can see myself buying all of those.

To add:

I much prefer the subscription model. I generally avoid F2P titles due to the , spammers, cheaters, dupers, and gold farmers/sellers they seem to attract. They appear in far greater numbers when the company has no real recourse against them. I guess we'll see how this all turns out. 3G may very well have some tricks up their sleeve for these lowlifes.

Other than my above concern, PoE appears that it will be a great title.
I think nobody can be more concerned about getting money from PoE than GGG themselves. So don't worry guys. They know better than us when it comes to game business, right?
He who fights with monsters
might take care lest he thereby
become a monster.

Haha. I'd have to agree with that.

Imagine that: The game is good but the profit is low => They have to shut down the servers...

So it's either a loose-loose or a win-win (enough money => more server capacity and updates) situation :D
Ya besides the said right off the back there not going to be starting off with a huge debt or anything. They can afford to make back their investment slowly in fact thats what they're planning on. Then when the ball is moving more and more customers they will be able to shift their concern from server cost and wages over to new expansion and features.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.

yep and on terms of features and longevity of the game in terms of player hours at release, it all looks good so far

i also forgot to say earlier that the other good point of this being F2P is it gets them alot more coverage than they normally would and saves a fortune on marketing

i would hope however though if this was a success that we got a buy to play sequel or big expansion while hoping they stay indie

they should add a donation feature on the main website, so people who want to donate like $20-50 towards the game can :)
I think the bset way now to help GGG to introduce this game to as many people as you can.
Its obvious that there are huge advantages to a free/no montly fee games - there will be THAT many more players trying out the game, eventually (some sooner, some later) many of them will spend some money, because, honestly a few dollars for ingame fun youre likely enjoying for countless hours per month/week/day is nothing at all.

Now where the GGG absolutely shines is not selling success in game! There was someone above who wrote that it makes no sense to play p2p games nowadays. I will disagree. Unfortunately the p2p are the only ones offering a competitive and equal gaming experience for everyone - I cannot stand playing a game where I have to rely on my non-virtual wallet, thats just not right for me.

Given this Ill be happy to play PoE (which I probably wouldnt since I've been avoiding all the "free" games best I can for years) AND spend money to buy some nice visual effects, even if not the first month, I'm pretty sure Ill do that if the game really gets me.

So given myself as an example - some people will spend more money on PoE than if it was selling "experience potions", will stick to the game longer since it offers a really competitive online world for everyone for which there is little equal in any of the "free" games, will show the game to more friends etc etc (=

I can see GGG thinking from the players point of view, thats why theyre so promising all the way and I'm sure will succeed (=
Good points there, and it certainly looks promising. As someone from the devs (most likely Chris) said, P2p is risky nowadays, because people are paying only for one game (WoW of course) and hesitant to switch to another. And I don't blame them. Why should one switch from a good (well, to someone at least), polished system to a new one that just came out.
That's why F2p is a good option, however I hate more than anything when I see "buy xxx subscription for more content", and I can't choose Monk class or Centaur race or anything because of that. Okay let someone buy shiny epics, experience potions, but please don't restrict MY game experience because of that.

So my ranking would be (from worst to best, from a completely new game's perspective) :

1,"F2p" with restricted content and such
2, P2p (this might be risky without proper marketing, lack of support, updates in the first few weeks)
3, F2p with "experience potions" (Runes of Magic for example)
4, F2p with cosmetics and such for money (LoL)
