Is this game completely free?
I really can not understand how this game is completely free... The possible buying of items are dealing with visuals only not allowing people to pay 20 bucks to get the best gear in the game. So how is this company going to make any kind of profit? I would gladly pay $60 for this game and the way it is looking I think it deserves it.

" Yes, 100% of the content is completely free. Won't be able to buy anything that gives you gameplay benefit. Why? Because GGG are awesome. http://pathofexile.com/faq/ I am a poor freezingly cold soul
So far from where I intended to go |

Many developers are making millions through microtransactions. I don't expect GGG to make nearly that much (at least not anytime soon) but they should easily be able to cover their operating costs.

I'm somewhat sceptic on that. It would be good to have Plan B ready.

One word Zynga. Makers of the farmville. However crappy a game it might be its existence as a cash cow can't be disputed. Also it uses a very similar cosmetic only. Not completely, but a lot of the purchases are visuals. Like happy pets there not too much of a game play advantage it's mainly for looks cause that is what is important to casual gamers.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.

"Farmville, Zynga’s hit game that has stayed at the top of the leaderboard for months now, also trends slightly more female, with women making up 57.9% of its audience."
One can sell just about anything to females. Male players, which account for majority of RPG players, are very different species. "I am The Banisher, the ill will that snuffs the final candle." - Seal of Doom (MTG)

Is profoundly different, but remember that The Lord of The Rings Online has tripled its revenue since he became f2p with microtransactions.

That does not mean non-beneficial items sell good.
