My recap of PoE vs D4 and why even still PoE is unmatched
the campaign in D4 is so bad.
talk to a guy. then talk to a woman. the talk to a guy. then the guy walks across the room and you talk to him again. then he sends you to a dungeon and you talk to a wolf for like 5 fucking minutes. and then you leave the dungeon and go back to the same place you started and talk to a guy. and then talk to a woman. and then talk to the guy again. and then he sends you on a fetch quest somewhere else.... jesus christ what an awful game. where is the hack n slash? its just an exercise in wasting time. entire dungeons you just walk through and theres literally 0 mobs, ur just walking simulator through empty dungeon, you pick up a thing, and then back track. the reason back tracking feels so awful is because you have cleared the zone and ur walking simulator through an empty place, but in d4 it was empty right from the start. that whole tedious shit with the snake and ur trying to find a way past its like pulling teeth, and you finally find a way through all that crap and find a tree... and then you click the tree and its done, you port out again and go somewhere else? lolololol its an arpg. fight through hordes of mobs in dungeons, find cool loot, at the end of the dungeon theres a boss and you kill it and get more loot. thats the core gameplay. escort quests? fetch quests? endless empty areas and go here talk to this guy then go talk to that guy and then go click the thing and it drops the stone and you pick it up and give it to the other guy? what is this? what is this utter shit im spending time doing? all for what? to service some saturday morning kids cartoon joke of a story that only exists for the game? no one wakes up and thinks hey, ive got an awesome fantasy story to tell, and instead of writing a book im gonna make an arpg to tell it. no, it doesnt happen. the story was an afterthought contrived because the game required it, and then the gameplay turned into an afterthought contrived to facilitate the story, and the motivation for the entire thing was what exactly? we got a shit story, shit gameplay, whats the point? why did any of this happen? next instalment of the franchise $$$. a franchise that is what it is because once upon a time someone actually cared about making a good game. its bad. the item system is also terrible, and so is the skill system. people keep on saying well d3 was shit on launch, poe was bad... yeah, stand on the shoulders of giants. if you start a car company, release a car with square wheels and say well, it took these other people 3000 years to invent a circular wheel so how can you expect me right off the bat t.... by looking at what exists already! holy shit m8s. problems the genre has that were solved by games 10 years ago are now unsolved in d4 because the devs are not arpg players. hey lets make an endgame, but to make it interesting lets design our entire endgame around zones you run through without killing the mobs, full clearing dungeons, backtracking and fetch quests! thats gonna be really fun, i dont play arpgs but im pretty sure the people who do will love all those things and they absolutely will not be the hot topics of death that everyone has hated in diablo 3 and poe for the last decade.... but its got endgame. when you skip and click through and suffer the unskipable waffling wolf and zzzleep your way over the snake and walking simulator through the final dungeon you get to the endgame and actually it starts to feel kind of ok like anyone who still enjoys d3 would expect. because d3 had an even worse item system, a slightly better but still meh skill system and a terrible campaign. but you log on new season, make a new character, smash through adventure mode and then you make some fun builds and the shit item system holds up for about a week and its fun then youre finished and you stop playing. thats fine, i play almost every season of d3, its fun for what it is, this game is gonna be the same thing. you make a little build and blow up some dungeons with your m8s and you find some shit items but theyre items and then you get to the bottom of the puddle and go do something else until next season. its like a 6/10 i guess for the endgame, if you are a dedicated endgame grind type player its got your casual drive through fix thats gonna give you a 3-14 day mini adventure 3 times a year. im probably gonna play 75% of this games seasons for the next 10 years and have a really good time. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" This is gold. Stealing this for the people who say PoE was also very barebones when it launched. As if this argument wasn't stupid enough already - comparing a 10 years old game originally made by small indie company to a gaming giant that was developing D4 for some 7 years, and could easily learn from failures and successes of other ARPGs. |

" Happens when a company tries to design their game in a different genre. You can easily tell that D4 took some inspiration from Lost ark and their tedious quest and open world system and just the MMORPG genre in general. Well at least lost ark was quite amusingly fun designed in some ways and had at least some hack and slay fun in chaos dungeons lol. D4 is just pure disappointment giving the development time, budget and size of the company. But welp it's not the first and last flop bliz delivered us since years. Guess their only focus is set on the special private time talks with their female employees for certain unusual (well usual for blizzard I suppose) work matters. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun. Last edited by Pashid#4643 on Jul 16, 2023, 5:06:07 AM

Blizzard put out another agressively mediocre game that feels super good on first few hours and empity by the evening
Really, at this stage of the game, if you bought D4 and was surprised to see a uber mediocre product with promisses that will get better at some ill-defined point in the future and regret the purchase, you really have nobody to blame but yourself |

" Weird that i get the same vibes from PoE nowadays. I'm sure the next league won't be as mediocre as the last few. Ruthless should be [Removed by Support].

" did not even played leagues and complaining :D |

" Leagues come and leagues go. If you like the core game, the league is only icing on the cake. If you don't like the core game, a league mechanic is not likely going to change that. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

" I don't need empirical evidence to know it's trash. Patch notes were enough. " Well yeah, they fucked Breach, they fucked loot and leagues are mediocre. And fanboys complain about how Diablo was empty when PoE boils down to practically the same: power creep with no real challenge. Mediocre Morsov, mediocre. Ruthless should be [Removed by Support]. " Tons of challenges in PoE, and in D4 too I assume. Maybe it's not the challenges you like or prefer, but they are there. There's even a list of them in your profile, which you keep hidden. I'm sure you've completed them all. Challenges in ARPGs will always be about progression and grinding. All ARPGs (that I've played, and I've more or less played them all) are like that. If that's not your thing, that's fine, but I struggle to see how PoE has less "real challenges" than other ARPGs. Sometimes, I get the feeling that some of the critique PoE, D4 or any other ARPG get, should be directed towards the genre, and not the specific games. Maybe you could enlighten me on what a "real challenge" is, and some examples from other ARPGs. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you. Last edited by Phrazz#3529 on Jul 21, 2023, 5:04:04 PM
