Thank you, VideoGeemer. You and I assumed the worst about each other at first, but we've both come around. I know you favor FFA, but you've expressed respect for the wishes of those for whom an instanced loot option is essential, just as I have learned to appreciate the desires of those for whom an FFA option is essential. We've gone from angry retorts to intelligent discussion. Surely if you and I can come to this understanding, GGG can too.

Indeed. It sucks that emotion/inflection can't be read in text on a page, but when people are able to talk out their perspectives, a lot can be accomplished. :)

There was a thread on the subject of a full respec option. I started out as adamantly against it, but could see the points made that perhaps having them allowable, say, ONCE per character wouldn't be so bad.

Aside from one guy who literally shouted a "screw you" to all of the rest of us, it was a really good discussion, where pros and cons were exchanged in an honest and open way. It's a great thread and I hope GGG saw it.

But there was that one guy, hehe, with the notion that his preferred option was the only valid opinion. This seems to happen a lot on the Internet, and indeed, the world at large. I feel bad for thinking you were one of them; it's obvious by now that you're actually a pretty cool guy whose words were just taken in a different way from that which you had intended. :)

I think GGG is paying attention to these things, and next week if a lot of people are upset about the timed loot thing, I'll bet they'll start looking immediately to better solutions (if they're not already).

You fight mobs, treasure drops. Somebody grabs it. If you have trustworthy party members, mebbe you get an equitable split. If not, mebbe not. Solution? Party with people you know and trust. Too hard? Too bad. It is what it is.

OR-

You fight mobs, treasure drops. A magical timer intervenes in the collection of the spoils, everybody reacts to the timer dynamic, and things now revolve around that construct.

QFT

There really needs to be a full FFA option. I know we haven't gotten the chance to test this, but it's a logical assumption that it's going to break FFA by definition. FFA is all or nothing, no "in-between".

What was that QFT for???

You do realize that his post was AGREEING with you, right?

Have you played Diablo 3? It might not get a lot right for people, but the trade economy is solid. You can find ANYTHING on the Auction House and trades between people is very common. Instanced loot is not a problem in Diablo 3. It's one of the main things the game gets right, IMO.

For disclosure: No, I have not.

What seemed so funny to me was that the biggest complaints about D3 are:

1) Can't get in to play, SP or otherwise
2) Very few viable builds/lack of customization options
3) Grinding is just not fun (early game is over too quickly, Inferno isn't hard but takes forever and the levels aren't randomized enough)

And, most importantly, 4) In order to get good gear you almost HAVE to use the AH, or be stuck with gear several levels behind, as the gear drops are designed to push players into using the (very overpriced) auction house instead of finding them out in the field.

...

There could be a 5, 6, and 7 about graphics, gameplay mechanics like health orbs and casino-like encouragements, and a weak storyline, but I don't think people are outraged by these as much as the combination of the others.

Please, you guys, hold out. You already have your accounts, and it takes time for a development staff of **18** people to make all of this right.

I'm sure after .9.10, there will be a lot of discussion on the loot system, and *if timed isn't good enough for you*, and if there are a lot of you (which there may very well be) then there's a good chance GGG WILL implement a full instanced loot option and revert the other to FFA again.

But it's not going to happen overnight.

I experienced one of these tonight in the Dark Woods, whilst flickering about, heard the sound go wonky for about 20 seconds the BSOD... so current build probably no, then again I also played for a solid 5 hours, with only one memory leak .exe failure and the afore mention BSOD due to sound.

No, unless they manage to squeeze a fix in over the weekend. This is definitely on their to-do list, but it seems to be a complex issue.
