Sherlock is brilliant, but it comes with a huge caveat: the show writer is smarter than you. He knows it. And if you don't like it, don't bother. Because he will rub it in your face. Repeatedly.
He does the same now that he's running Doctor Who. You either dig the cleverness or you don't. Me, I love it. Moffat is some sort of smartarse God in my opinion. But a lot of people find it smarmy. Big Bang Theory definitely gets points for geek references and research, but I find Arrested Development and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia much funnier and definitely more creative. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Sheldon is the only reason BBT is alive... that show should have died in its second season, but Jim Parsons delivers a character that is so well played that it carries the entire show.
It's almost embarassing watching him in further seasons next to his co-stars... it's like they babble on with mediocre to bad acting, simply taking turns talking and waiting to set-up when Sheldon begins. " Very true. It's rather amusing how well he plays his role given that Jim parsons is almost 40 years old (as opposed to the ~25 year old he plays in the show). ''Stand amongst the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters.

True.
I still find it mildly entertaining. Besides, the girlfriend likes it. One clings to a show that one finds mildly entertaining that the girlfriend likes. It's like some crazy, infinitesimal Venn diagram confluence sometimes. Although she gets kudos for loving Mad Men, GoT, True Blood...and, weirdly, Criminal Minds, which is a bit too disturbing for me at times. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Yeah i ment the Camelot series, it makes a interesting spin with the king arthur tales and tells a story that explains the magic in the tale as we know it today, though is not magic at all ( Well, most of it.. )
And i'm watching Firefly now, i never knew there was a whole series around it, no kidding Serenity was confusing at times, with characters dying i barely knew. I will watch Serenity the movie again after i've seen the firefly series, it will shed light on many things i think.. At the third episode of Firefly so far and i love it, great advice, thank you, OP, for making this thread. Shoep - Default league Ranger
Peohs - Any other class or character i play. Jhuvik - My Marauder Merialeth - My witch |

I'm more of a movie guy than TV.
+1 for Dexter. The best I've seen. Amazing writing, dialog, and acting. Jennifer Carpenter is an incredible actress. Big Bang Theory was funny in the first season. After that, the jokes became repetitive and boring. I haven't seen Game of Thrones yet, but I've heard from everyone I know that it is amazing. I guess its time to make a quick run to Blockbuster. I've also heard good things about Sherlock, I'll have to check that out. I've also watched a considerable about of Law and Order: SVU. But I'm to the point where it just makes me feel depressed about all the bad things that actually happen in the real world, and yet I watch it as entertainment. How I Met Your Mother is okay. I watch it occasionally, and sometimes it makes me laugh, other times not so much. Battlestar Galactica was good, up until the very last two-three episodes. It was one of the biggest anti-climactic let-down endings I've ever seen. One show I really miss is Who's Line Is It Anyway? Such good times watching that show. I'm not into reality shows at all. Scripted non-scripted acting is not my thing. IGN: Sonalia, Arkimond Last edited by Tommerbob#5063 on May 10, 2012, 3:50:54 PM

For fans of the improv style of WLIIA, you can check out 'Fast and Loose', which is very similar but has one particularly brilliant segment where two of the contestants (if you can call them that) have to guess a song based entirely on interpretive dance.
Dexter's....okay. I watched the first two seasons in a hit but then by the time season 3 rolled around, I had other things going. I do have a sealed 1-5 box sitting on my shelf that I'll get around to (the girl has promised to watch with me, yay and stuff). BSG ended where it began. Anyone unsure of that should probably watch the miniseries again. Amusing fact: the first release of BSG season 1 here and in the UK came without the mini-series. I had to hunt it down separately, and eventually found it in a crappy 5-movie dvd set which did include Tremors and Fahrenheit 451, so I guess that wasn't too bad. Eureka's fun. Probably the best thing to come from Syfylis lately. Although 'Alphas' turned out pretty good too. Interested in seeing where season 2 goes. To whomever loved Xena (I think it was shoep) I must iterate that 'Legend of the Seeker' is likely very much something you want to see. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

A few shows from the past few years I have really enjoyed are...
Psych Burn Notice Sons of Anarchy Suits Justified Eureka Warehouse 13 Dr.Who Grimm Supernatural Game of Thrones House of Lies Eastbound and Down Archer Metalocalypse The Fades True Blood (It's a guilty pleasure, don't judge me!) Being Human (The original UK version, not the US one) The Walking Dead A few of my favorite shows of all time... Buffy Angel Deadwood The Sopranos Fringe (First season) Dexter Heroes (First season, so much potential they squandered) |

" I would agree with that, but I think that a big influence also came from Deadwood. The writing in Deadwood was telling the story of a very select few people by telling the story of the entire town. It didn't focus completely on 1 or 2 characters, but instead focused on the affect that those 1 or 2 characters had on life as a whole in Deadwood through the eyes of the people that were affected by it. |
