TV series

Game of thrones (I have read books 1-5 and i know for a fact that the future seasons of GOT will not be disappointing at all)

@CharanJaydemyr,

Wow, Firefly... Not sure why i never heard of it before, i watched Serenity, but never firefly... Time to change that!

Also, what's the best strictly medieval series in your opinion, preferably action, not drama? ( The king arthur series was so much drama...) I've been looking for a good one for a while now.

Oh, and on a side note: Xena. Definitely Xena.
Shoep - Default league Ranger
Peohs - Any other class or character i play.
Jhuvik - My Marauder
Merialeth - My witch

Although it's not set in 'real' medieval times, but rather an alternate (still medieval) universe, Game of Thrones.

It does have magic in it, but only very vaguely, there are no wizards throwing fireballs, but much more subtle things.

Anyway, watch it. It is AMAZING.
It is honestly the best series / movie I have ever seen in my life, and anyone who even remotely likes watching moving pictures should see it at least once.
If you're still not convinced, it has a 9,4 on IMDB.com which is one of the highest grades (if not 'The' highest) on there. EDIT: The only one I have spotted with a higher grade so far is 'Band of Brothers' with a 9.6 which is done by the same people who made Game of Thrones! :P

Just.. watch it.

This thread, 3-4d post, read it ;)

I'm already watching Game of Thrones, but one episode a week... I´d rather discover a medieval series i end up loving where i can watch them at a pace i like.

Ah. Well you could just wait until all the episodes are out.. I also very much doubt you'll find a medieval show that even comes close to GoT. :P

I refused to watch Serenity until I saw Firefly. Thing is, Fox aired it out of order, and skipped episodes (good job there), so I waited until I could get a box set. Well worth it. The movie makes about 200% more sense with Firefly under your belt.

Game of Thrones is a given; it's simply the best thing on TV right now. So let's move past that, and into the murkier waters of non-premium cable. By 'King arthur series' do you mean Starz' Camelot? I heard that was okay. I can't watch 'Merlin' because the dude has crazy huge ears and I can't unsee that, ever. It also looks a bit too episodic for me.

That said, there's a little short-lived gem you might like based very loosely on a series of books dubbed 'Wheel of Time Lite' by Terry Goodkind. The book series was called 'Sword of Truth' and the tv showa adaption was called 'Legend of the Seeker.' It's by Sam Raimi, who famously turned Hercules into a camp hero and then created a female version by the name of Xena. Legend of the Seeker is far less camp than either of those, has a LOT of action, and a very creepy main villain. It also has red leather clad dominatrices and a main female character who can with but a touch make any man her adoring slave.

The book series went all sorts of strange and socialist and was full of really grisly sadomasochistic behaviour, but the tv show does a fairly good job of sidestepping most of that. I never finished the second (and finale) season because unfortunately the strayed FAR too much from the core story and things get a bit irrelevant.

But as far as fun action not-too-dramatic medieval/fantasy goes, I'd put it on a to-watch list.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Camelot starts off really good, but quickly turns really boring and bad.
Horrible acting from the guy who plays Arthur doesn't make it better.

So even if you get over the big ears, don't waste your time with it^^

It's funny but I believe that Game of Thrones owes its existence to two other HBO shows, neither of them as successful as GoT itself.

Firstly, Rome -- massive budget per episode, quite a few of the same crew later went on to work on GoT, ridiculously adult content, very strong female characters

And of course True Blood -- you start with vampires, okay, we can handle that. And then the net widens, bringing in other supernatural creatures. Before HBO viewers knew it, they were watching a sexier, crasser version of Charmed.

By the time GoT rolled around, HBO viewers (and the execs, of course) had been shown that fantasy/period pieces can be extremely engaging and complex and yet 'hip' and very much contemporary.
