An Unexpected Consequence of A New Generation of Gaming Hardware.

I've never measured how much data PoE sends and receives while playing, but I doubt it is that much.
Salty, you seem to imply that the graphics are somehow coming from the server to your PC. But graphics are client side calculations (unless you're using a streaming service like Stadia).
So, if your modem was faulty/misconfigured - that could have had an impact.
If the connection Computer - Modem - wall socket was faulty - that could have had an impact.
If the modem is slower than your connection could handle - that might also in some scenarios have had an impact.

Since you seem to be streaming and many internet connections have a very limited upload speed compared to downloads, it's also possible that the old modem was slower and that it couldn't use your full upload speed, whereas the new one can, so you're not using most of that up with your stream.
Or when you installed the new modem you plugged all the cables in correctly whereas before one wasn't 100% connected and you dropped packets.

However, I highly doubt that the modem accounts for performance issues in the majority of cases. I'd rather see changing the modem as a last resort.

he he he, i have shitty 35$ modem 9 years old and the game runs perfectly...

Yeah, you are 33, but you still need to learn a lot, A LOT, about PC. Modem dont mean sh*t if your connection is shitty. Also, you would be surprised how many ISP's dont allow to use different modem then they provide, no matter if you paid for theirs or not.

Modem is important, but not that much, more important is connection...

As i said, you need to learn A LOT....

PS: now i cant get better gaming experience even if i buy 2k$ modem. I would still get 35-50ms latency.

This guy is legit trying to defend performance like what the fuck dude HAHAHHAHA shit my main computer is probably the most expensive like 3 fucking titans up in that bitch and it will still lag.

It's an outdated engine there's no going way around that

You funny dude.

Of course YOU completely missed the point.

Nothing new here.

OP is on spot 100%. Doesn't matter if you have a $3k rig, if it's being pulled by a slow and dumb walrus well then that's your fault. And this is new news to some ppl? Shocking...(not a dig at the OP).

I would give tips, but like I used to tell my Ex...."Google It".

25 Exalts...oh God my stupidity stuck! Now onto 25 Divines...
If your modem was causing fps issues, it means it was spectacular shit. For most people a new modem isn't going to solve anything. It only might be noticable for OP because hes using a trashcan modem AND hes streaming on top of that.

You should buy a modem for yourself anyway because it pays for itself compared to having to rent one with accruing monthly payments for eternity.

TL:DR Go buy a new modem if your game is lagging that badly it will blow your mind

So just a few months ago we got the 3080's and such from Nvidia, cool, whatever. There was shortly before that a new generation of CPU's from Intel. An industry trend of "Ray Traced this and that" and "DLSS" and quite a few other programming and procedural innovations happened in gaming generally speaking. The cumulative result, the sum of all of these parts... Stunning improvements in visual quality. IRL, I'm 33. My first video game was Duck Hunt/Super Mario the combo cartidge (Any Boomers Smile). In 2021 video games crossed a line in visual quality that I sincerely never imagined. Video games are legitimately breathtaking... To me its literally emotionally moving.

So, Here we are, only a few baby steps beyond that moment... what do these innovations mean for us, the consumers. Well, one of the unfortunate consequences of producing these truly marvelous images is that they are data rich images. With the Advent of systems like DLSS our video games demand more powerful hardware... and even if we, or you individually CAN afford to update your hardware (I spent 2000$ USD this year which is legitimately crazy a little bit) There is a very important piece that you might just overlook...

Your modem.

You might have access to fiber optic "GIGABIT" internet and you might have the most insane NASA level Space X approved PC that money and human ingenuity is capable of bringing together... but if all of that power and information has to move through the equivalent of an itty bitty little bendy straw of a modem... well kid... you're doing it all wrong.

Go buy a good... modern... current generation modem and find out what poe looks like at 245 FPS in a T17 100% Delirious Infused nemesis double beyond elder necropolis and try not to shatter your jawbone when it hits the floor.

---------------------------------Edit---------------------------------

If you have a few minuets here are 2 clips... both on exactly the same PC, the only difference between the two clips... a modem.

The Old Modem: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/756559272

The New Modem: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/932753810

Literally just a stock standard modem from the ISP VS a real modem

Thanks for the heads-up.
What is the value of my own life when it is taken from others so easily?

Imagine bragging about owning a prebuilt : /
Learn to build dude. Stop flushing hundreds of dollars down the toilet on parts you wouldn't have picked, plus a build fee. Gross. The point you were attempting to make would be more successful if you listed high end hardware, not "water cooled from Falcon Northwest" which literally means NOTHING.

This is still a good PSA to most people. There's a lot of ISP's that either give you an absolute shit modem (which ISN'T an router), or they don't let you use anything other then what they give you.

In these cases, somehow upgrading can very well enhance a players experience.
So now the blames switched from "PoTatO Pc" to "JuSt BuY a NeW mOdeM"

fuck no, just stop.

They need to literally stop with this garbage. They need to get better servers.

That's funny u say that. I used to build them in HS. For not only me for freinds...Air brushed and fiberglassed custom cases and was even featured in a thread over at anandtech. When you get the paper it's better to have pros do it and I do what I'm good at. Specialization is way to wealth.

Anyway so know a good modem Mr. PC builder?

Yeah...

Your "job" as a gamer, is to be "in touch" with your system. A system always has bottleneck(s). That bottleneck might very well be your modem/router - and there's ALWAYS(!!!) things you can do at your end to make your gaming experience better, even in PoE - and yes, even if your precious AAA-title run fast. PoE is a VERY traffic-heavy game, and your modem/router may be more important here than in other games.

That said; performance in PoE, especially this league, has been bad. While your "job" as a gamer is to limit problems at your end, GGG's job is to deliver a stable product. This league, they haven't.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
