You were slain! Awesome! But by what, exactly?

They honestly couldn't give you one right now I bet...

Half a second of an average map battle log would read like this:

White mob hit for 500
White mob hit for 501
White mob hit for 498
White mob hit for 367
White mob hit for 902
White mob hit for 601
White mob hit for 804
White mob hit for 320
White mob hit for 910
White mob hit for 206
White mob hit for 350
White mob hit for 703
White mob hit for 390
White mob hit for 420
White mob hit for 507
White mob hit for 642
White mob hit for 490
White mob hit for 358

With the current dogpile mechanics that's about as useful as they could give you, the real log would be 50 pages of that and take up half their server memory to keep.

I dont know if a real time text file would be that costly
you are probably right with 50 pages though

on the other side you would have an easy time seeing what killed you when you only get to fight 1-3 enemys

More than 20 years ago Diablo II managed to display what killed you.

You can take for granted that GGG doesnt want this feature otherwise it would have been implemented since beta.

I agree, in fact the same can be said for many things players report all the time but are never fixed or implemented.
I think who killed you and how would be enough. This way we could tell "ah, I need more fire resistance" or "oh, I should stay away from _that_ monster" and "Eh, I guess I should run from the Elder's beam-thingy" or "I need to stack more HP".

As in:
"Juxx was killed by Atziri's Arc (15.000 reflected lightning damage, 1200 resisted, 8445 overkill)"

"Juxx was killed by Atziri's Flame Blast (15.000 direct fire damage, 1200 resisted, 8445 overkill)"

"Juxx was killed by Juxx' burning ailment (121 fire damage over time, 12 overkill)"

If people really want dancing numbers like Diablo, they can just fake _something_, tbh. I don't see any actual use for this.
I thing, GGG should fix mechanic "one shot=die".
There is no balance in game, when you clearing all content whith no problems and suddenly coming script "10000% degen for all and 100000000dmg".

I actually like this aspect of the game. There is no build so overpowered that you can just run through the game without looking left and right. For the endgame fights, you have to learn some tactics. And that's a good thing, IMHO.
I know this isn't the answer you want, but GGG have continually stated this is the way they want it. They don't want you to be able to parse a combat log. IMO part of the reason for that is because it would expose their long standing crit calculation bugs, but that's an aside.

The best thing you can do is get software that records the last 30 seconds of gameplay. I use GeForce Experience, and it's been invaluable. It doesn't remove the nasty taste of completely untelegraphed, unavoidable, unfair deaths, but it allows you to figure out what happened so that maybe you can avoid it in the future.

Maybe.

To make game more difficult, imo better is mechanic similar to orbs of delirium.
All mobs are stronger, have more hp and dmg. But one huge dmg from nothing is bad in my opinion.
