Phys builds suck, don't bother

After trying my hardest to come up with the best pure physical DW build, gearing the crap out of my character (i.e. 2x 290DPS weapons, 6L zodiac chest etc.). I've come to the conclusion (as many others have) that pure phys builds suck. Until they give some way to mitigate armour they're just going to be plain terrible.

My DW duelist is now officially retired, final build (for those curious)

with the above build I had ~8K dual strike, ~5k Cleave and ~1.7k Cyclone. Issue was never really staying alive, it was staving off my own boredom from the amount of time it took to kill groups of enemies.

Back to face-rolling with my LA ranger!

I prefer a mix of phys and elemental so both ele resist mobs (which are everywhere in cruel and merciless) and high armor mobs take decent damage. Curses are annoying...
I only have a 5L, and my Cleave is almost 20k Unbuffed. I'm a pure physical build also. Your Cleave damage is pretty low. I can probably help you get your damage up. Whats your Cleave links?

with a 6l and such good weapons u should be able to get at least 10k+ cleave. cleave-melee dmg-faster attacks-added fire should get u there already, but u have a 6l... and those leather and steel nodes are strange for u, if u ask me. respec leather and steel, get unwavering and get the +52% armor near duelist start or/and the +43% armor near mara start.
give us dps\gear screenshots.

same problem i had with a ranger built similarly, pure physical BM etc... just gave up endgame as it took too long to kill stuff... the 5k tooltip dps is a lie since it's 5k physical so more like 1.5k actual dps... very easy to test since you can just go attack kobe and see how long it takes you to kill him and then do it on a diff char... so so lame!
This was my gear (I may have exaggerated about the weapons :) But still very good)
Spoiler

Ignore the gems though, the gear's gone back to their rightful owner.

I know I could have massively bumped up my damage using added fire and hatred/anger/wrath - but once I do that it's not really a phys build any more is it?

The reason I took the leather&steel nodes was because I figured it gives 64EV+64AR which = 128 total armor bonus vs 102% (I might be wrong about that, I never really bothered to test since armour was never really the problem).

64EV+64AR = 64 AR with IR

Oh the irony! Being clueless and not doing your homework before posting make you look stupid.

Below is a quote from Mark_GGG explaining how Leather and Steel works and its interaction with IR. It was not in the mechanics thread either.

There is no "both"
Leather and steel applies one, and only one, modifier.
The value of the modifier is a 24% increase.
The modifier applies to evasion rating and armour.

It is not a 24% increase to evasion rating, and a separate 24% increase to armour.

It's "24% increased Evastion Rating and Armour". One bonus, with two things it can apply to.
Just like "10% increased elemental damage" applies to cold dmage, fire damage and lightning damage.

There is never any situation in the game where one bonus can be applied twice to the same value. When you convert cold damage to fire damage using the support, the elemental damage bonuses don't apply twice. The damage either is or isn't elemental.

If you have evasion, you total all increases to evasion rating. Leather and steel applies, because it affects evasion rating.
If you have armour, you total all increases to armour. Leather and steel applies, because it affects armour.
If you have evasion converted to armour, you total all increases which apply to either of those things. Leather and steel applies, so is included. It does not "apply twice", it's one bonus, and it's either applied or isn't.
