On maps...well..

Every single minor DoT(on top of your own, that can kill you too) is completely neglecting your life leech, flask and will most likely kill you.
Every single powerful crit mob will most likely kill you.
Every single volatile blood mob will most likely kill you(if you happen to miss it in the mess that is going on).
Every single Sirus possessed mob will most likely kill you(if he'll get to you, while range ones can oneshot you from off-screen).

What is the purpose of that build again?

Well for me I just really like Vaal Groundslam. This build probably shines as a crit build but, I'm having decent bossing/mapping success as resolute technique. I also manually cast my increased duration support Steelskin; found it to be better than cast when damage taken.

I'm having none of these issues with this build. Check your gear.

On looking at your profile, I see that your ground slam berserker is level 77. You have no life on one of your rings, your amulet, or your boots. You still have life nodes to take in the passive tree, and leveling gives you more flat life. If you were trying to take your character as it is in its current state and play A8 maps, I can certainly see why you're having issues. I'd also suggest trying to get a life flask with a better prefix.

As far as the purpose of the build, its for damage. It can certainly be squishy at times, especially when you dont have the investment to get a lot of the defensive layers, but its tanky enough to do all content. On my ground slam character from harvest league I consistantly do deathless Sirus' and Uber Elder fights, and was able to level to 98 while doing all those bosses. Another player actually played this build in Ritual to level 100 while using an abyssus.

Any idea how to get more damage without going crit?

You're starting to get towards the upper limit of the RT variant's dps. You have roughly 11 million dps without seismic cry. With seismic cry for 5 hits you have an average of roughly 22 million dps.

Most of your items aren't bad enough to warrant replacing. Your worst items I'd say are your rare jewels. You can get far more value out of attack speed mods instead of additive % damage like "Increased damage with axes" or "Increased area damage" mods. The other thing you could upgrade is your watchers eye. You could get either the +2 impale or the 8-12% chance to deal double damage with pride. Both of those would be upgrades. Your tree looks correct. You're even using a ryslathas coil, which because its rolled so well is almost 15% more damage on average. (poorly rolled ones can even lower your average damage)

It seems like you're not too far investement-wise from swapping to crit. It would certainly be a way to increase your damage if damage is what you're really wanting.

Here is a search criteria for crit axes you could look at. It may be most cost effective to use a fleshripper with a little less pdps than your current axe, although you certainly could buy a fleshripper with 800-850+ pdps.
https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Ritual/vd5J9bMCE
Youd also want to replace your rings for ones that have accuracy, although your Sorrow Hold ring would be hard to replace. Bottled faith is 5 exalts last I checked, although you don't need it to transition to crit. You'd replace the taste of hate with a diamond flask, and one of the life flasks with a Bottled faith if you choose to buy one. Overall you could probably transition to crit with 15-20 exalts, and you'd also be able to sell the axe your currently using if you do decide to.

Looking at the current market, selling your axe might be enough to make the transition if your willing to settle for just a little bit less pdps. Id price your current 868pdps axe at around 15ex (assuming its 6linked) at the time of writing. The most ideal scenario would be to buy a new axe, then sell your current axe after, so that you dont have the issue where you cant play the character.

Thank you for the extensive reply. If I transition to crit; would the nodes, accuracy rings, and fleshripper really be all I need for 100% hit chance?

You could get accuracy on both rings which should cap you, or another option would be to get a rare helmet with accuracy and resists. This would make it much easier to replace rings as well as contribute to capping accuracy. I believe you would only need 2 rings as well as use the Critical tree in order to cap your hit chance. The fleshripper would be necessary if you didnt want to get a bottled faith, rare chest with base crit, or replace your templar gloves with ones that have base crit. Having only 5% base crit like on a vaal axe really isnt enough to warrant the transition.

Edit: You actually will want mana leech on a ring as well. That or a jewel. You need one roll somewhere to fix mana so you can change on of the ascendancy nodes.

I just dropped Kaom's roots for the sake of building chaos res up(together with jewelry, had a Vermilion ring waiting) and some evade with sand stance, cuz it was flat unplayable. A4 t12 maps were just destroying me. Luckily, i've decided to drop that build before it sucked out all my currency for questionable outcome.

Hey Ekule, very cool build, loving it so far!

I leveled up with it and recently started doing red maps with it (im only awakening 1 in my atlas), and its been doing really well damage wise even if I'm using the RT setup, which is impressive considering I'm using a really sub par axe that dropped in the wild.

In terms of survivability it does reasonably well, however I think my gear needs some improvement as I get one shot really often in T16. Related to that, I had a few questions I was hoping you could help me out with:

1. I was wondering if you had any input on what gear I should replace first? I was thinking of maybe replacing my two rings to something with chaos resistance since I'm at -50% which could be why I get one shot so often. I've saved up about 10 ex that I can spend to improve the build.

2. Is there a specific chaos resistance level I should aim for?

3. When you suggest capping resistances to 75% is that before endurance charges are applied or after?

4. I'm also still debating what to do about the axe, from what I see really well rolled 2h axes are like 50+ ex so I'm debating crafting one myself since saving up for that would take a bit of time. Any input on that? Do you think I could somehow keep using the axe I have right now or is it just too sub par?

5. Not related to gearing, if you use vaal ground slam how do you sustain it? I tried using it and it instantly runs out of souls and when that happens I just can't use ground slam anymore (you'd think the skill would default to using regular ground slam in that case but apparently the game just isn't there yet lol).

Thanks alot!

1. I highly suggest you replace your axe. An atziri's disfavour is extrmely cheap right now, with you able to get one for less than 10c. I also highly suggest you get a pair of gloves with vulnerability curse on hit implicit. Hands of the High Templar will offer significantly more life than the minimum rolled tombfists you are currently running. Your life flask is a lower base type than an eternal or divine flask. I suggest you replace it with an eternal life flask rolled with a catalyzed prefix. If you get it rolled with of stanching (which you can use the beastcrafting in the menagerie to force on if it has an open suffix) Youll be able to replace the mods on your quartz flask. I also suggest you use a basalt flask instead of a quartz flask, at least to try it out. Your rare jewel in your tree is also pretty bad, not having life or damage mods at all. You may need to replace your amulet to drop the jewel if you need the resists or attributes badly. Lastly I suggest you buy a large cluster jewel.

2. Just getting 0% chaos resistance can significantly help against bosses like Sirus, Al-Hezmin, and The Constrictor. If you have the luxury to get as much as you want, you could aim for 50% chaos res, like my character from harvest league. This will make you very tanky against chaos damage.

3. You want to cap resistances for without having endurance charges. Monsters cannot be stunned is a common map mod, and prevents you from gaining endurance charges. You also usually wont be able to stun high health bosses like shaper or shaper/elder guardians with the RT variant. You may choose to overcap by as much as 32% elemental resistance, so that when you are cursed by elemental weakness in a red map, you wont be taking significantly more damage. The endurance charges can significantly help to mitigate that though, as well as a curse flask. I personally only tend to get around 10% more res than the cap.

4. Like I said above, you can get a better axe for extremely cheap. Atziri's disfavour has roughly 550-600+ pdps compared to your 456pds axe. If you wanted a higher pdps rare, 700pdps 6link axes start at roughly 7-8 exalts.

700pdps 6link rare axe search criteria:
https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Ritual/jGMR5bsX

5. Short answer is you cant sustain vaal ground slam. Its a skill that takes several kills and time to recharge. Its a button you can hit up to 2 times during boss fights for roughly double the damage of your ground slam average hit (outside of seismic cry) You should treat it like your vaal ancestral warchief totem, not hitting the button more than once or twice to do more damage.

nice

Thanks for the tips!

I followed your tips, ended up getting a 922 pdps axe (it was actually only 700 when i got it and i was able to raise it to 922 with harvest), a watcher's eye and the gloves you suggested. Overall the build feels great in T16, I find myself still a little bit squishy (especially vs bosses like the elders, Sirus, etc.) but I think that's mostly a L2p issue and my lack of chaos res (only at -41%).

To increase survivability, I've been thinking of trying to fit in a vitality aura gem into the build, i find often when i die its not to a one shot (especially when bossing) and this gem would help a lot to mitigate that in my opinion. With a level 4 enlightened support gem, linked with all aura gems on a 6 link, and maybe even a amulet with 25% reduced mana reservation for pride, I think it would comfortably fit. I think i would drop the totem for that aura as the uptime in boss battles isn't great, especially when starting with no souls.

Let me know if you have any thoughts!
Hey Ekule, can we expect this to get updated for 3.14 before the league goes live? Really want league start this but the change to pain reaver has me a little worried.
