change penetration support gems, they are useless now
Pen is better the more you need it, on the toughest ones it will increase damage the most and won't make a big difference on things that don't really have resists.
But yea it's fallen off big time since so many pen sources. Still just a slight update to numbers would be sufficient to keep it highly relevant. I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.

" isn t it better to nerf things instead of making the caps higher and higher? Same shit with monster life pool, would have been better to avoid all the power creep but GGG is not thinking really far in future when they take decisions. What is wrong with providing new options to gain pentration?
It is true that when combining a pentration support gem with the new sources of penetration, the gem itself is not that strong as it was before. On the otherhand, now one have the choice if getting pentration though support gem or in another way. Plus, penetration has deminishing returns by design. That helps to prevent powercreep through stacking it massively. The penetration support skills still have their value but they are no longer everybodies darling. I think that is a good thing if you want to have more build diversity. One can compare it with the many options available to applied curses. Here, one can say that the curse-on-hit support gem is weak and useless because there are so many other sources available. However, curse-on-hit a great way to apply curses with, for instance, movement skills, but one not necessarily has to use that mechanic, since there are others. Speaking of curses: The reduction of elemental resistances provided by curses would have done a good job on build diversity as well, if GGG would be willing to remove the ridiculous high Less Curse Effectiveness from bosses (and balance curses accordingly to boss fights). IMHO that's the true reason why everyone goes for pentration and therefore GGG is introducing new ways to get it. Penetration is the duct tape solution for elemental builds fighting bosses having both elemental resistances and Less Curse Effectiveness. Where is the point of having two different game mechanics to bypass elemental resistance if only one is effective in boss fightes when it is acutally needed? Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.

Yes sure, lessen the options. Force everyone to get specific items and nodes to get pen. Great idea !

" Did I miss something? GGG adds new items and nodes having penetration without touching existing mechanics. How does that lessens the options? (Which would be bad if zhis is the case.) Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.

" Reworking (or even removing as some suggested here) penetration support would certainly lessen options. I do not see any need or value in it. |

" Thanks for pointing out. That is what I think too. Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.

I think they need to simply remove a lot of the other sources of pen, or tone them down big time.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Variety is good, if we didn't have options it would be me making threads like "wtf am i supposed to do with a frost bomb that doesn't explode till i'm already in the next map"
Grab all the pen. if it's so great, it's not like you have to give anything up to get to the levels you're worried about anyway. |
