Speaking of derailing the thread...I'm selling an Astrmentis Onyx Amulet on my Gem Shop...Come check it out, its in my signature, and Here. This is the amulet.
I suppose if they are gonna lock the thread, might as well put it out there. The bidding has been going on a few days now, and I just lowered the minimum wait time. C/O is ~148 chaos in the form of 1 exalt, 35 GCP. I am a terrible person, please dont put me on probation. Hold on, I'm on the phone with Tolkeins people, something about copyright infringement.
This thread isn't going to go anywhere until GGG responds. Last edited by valarias#5872 on Mar 1, 2013, 12:45:23 AM

And they won't respond.
We had a bigger issue with multiboxing/boosting in the closed beta. Much bigger. So GGG responded by adding level requirements to the various difficulties and, I believe, reducing the experience gained unless you're near each other. That was their response. They're not going to ban multiboxing. Aint happening. Accounts are free, and what you do with them provided you do not automate is entirely up to you. As others have pointed out, multiboxing does not necessarily mean botting. That's like saying drinking alcohol makes you an alcoholic; all alcoholics drink, not all who drink alcohol are alcoholics. All bot-users use multiboxing of some sort; not all multiboxers are bot-users. It's pretty simple. I think, given the length, this should be the sanctioned 'talk about multiboxing' thread. Expect us to close duplicates as time goes by. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" WOO! Huge contribution to the new Multibox Thread!! Is this gonna be like the looting thread for multiboxer complaints? Also... " This should be something you put on the front page on your post from page 1. It might not be GGG formal announcement, but its should be good enough for the community. " They're going to have to respond eventually, in a few months the market will be so super inflated most of the players will have quit or started multi-boxxing/logging <-(most people can't so most will quit either way). |

" Alright, but the multiloading and its ridiculous consequences will be handled after all, right? Could you get some Dev to officially state something about that here on the forums? It's quite annoying to fish some articles from Reddit. Much appreciated the answer, thanks. |

Future: Who cares about multiboxing, it's all about that /players x now.

First off:
Personally, I would stop allowing the multi thing, as I find it to be completely against the (as I perceive it) spirit of the game, but that is just my very subjective opinion. Stopping multies by only allowing one client per IP would prolly stop most multies as I take it that playing several accounts through proxies would be a pain, but I don’t know, it might not. Having said that, one thing to keep mind when worrying about inflation/devaluation and what might result from multiboxing/logging or whatever is that (as I understand it) the main gain from it is terms of currency and not items. Having a currency which is its own sink is really brilliant. Since the use of orbs act as sinks the value of orbs might decrease initially, but at one point they become so cheap that you'll be able to craft a lot more thereby removing a ton of orbs from the game keeping the value of orbs somewhat steady. It actually makes it easier for the casual player (which in this discussion is a “non-multiwhatever player”) to craft the godly gear he wants so badly. This of course only last as long as players have gear that is still meaningful to improve by crafting (but this should take a long time I guess). As such, I don’t worry so much about the value of orbs. The price of uniques on the other hand is different and I cannot predict how the increased influx from multies will affect the prices. I would assume though that the really high-end ones would become stupidly expensive and the rest would loose all value over time (as seen in D3) due to increased supply and decreased demand over time for low end items (it actually contradictory to my statement about the currency being its own sink, but as I said, I’m not entirely sure what might happen). As the economy is still very young, prices are low now and good items will increase in currency over time as players gather wealth, multies makes that transition happen more quickly. How much more I don’t know, maybe only a small bit. This next bit might be slightly off-topic, but still: In the end some kind of item sink would eventually be needed to in order stop the complete devaluation of low/middle end items. League reset is naturally the ultimate sink, but other sinks could be considered. Having played EVE online for a long time (and having had multiple accounts and manually dual and trippleboxed a lot) I appreciate the item sink in that game. I don’t want to make too many comparisons between two very different games, but if an item sink existed in PoE (like in some form of PvP) it could act as a lid on some of the devaluation of some of the items. If some items would become too cheap people would use them for PvP. People could choose what kind of PvP to play, if orbs and uniques in general become too cheap they would be used in that specific form of “hardcore” PvP. It happens all the time in Eve and top tier items leave the game all the time that way thereby keeping a lid on devaluation of items. The multiboxer/logger would still have an advantage over the “single” player, but the impact on the economy over time is perhaps not as big as could be feared, even without an item sink. |
