How about a paid account instead of free?

I personally like OP's idea to block off the finer conveniences of the game behind a small one time purchase. I might even turn on global chat again if it were behind a paywall.

HOWEVER, I don't think it'll ever happen because it sacrifices the psychological effect of the game being completely free for new players. Less people would be willing to download POE for the first time if it seemed at a glance that they couldn't truly play for free.

The current model is a deviously genius spider web. Everyone consciously step into it thinking the spider won't get them, but then we all end up freely offering GGG our liquefied organs...I mean credit card numbers.
This is the 2nd worst idea I've read here. The worst being the disconnect timer.
People who wish to pay for things can already do so. Why would forcing change that?
You have ssf mode if bots really bother you.
You have an ignore list if you get harassed.
You also have an easy way to contact the support via e-mail if you have problems.

Monthly subs = NO... One time payment = acceptable. Why not make it 1 time payment equivalent to 1 supporter pack ($60), in par with the price of other games. With that payment the player will also receive the current supporter pack items & mtx points. It's like you have to buy a supporter pack to play the game & then they can just limit the F2P up to Act 4 as a demo/trial, if they want to continue, they have to buy a support pack. With this, it will not impact players who already bought support pack previously.

But if GGG do that, they must guarantee to the players that thay will be more attentive to the demands & complains of the players, because the players were already paying for the game.

+1 on F2P up to end of act 4. It's a gate and prevents spammers and botters going forward.
