Checked out Dutton's work. Heh, I shouldn't be surprised that it's basically endorsing the positive traits of psychopathy, given who recommended it.

I find it quite unpalatable and can't justify paying for a full book of it. This interview suffices to tell me this is not a tenable position to take. If Hollywood's romanticising of psychopaths has been damaging, then Dutton's perspective of almost venerating psychopathic traits is great only in that no one's taking it seriously. Dutton sidesteps the basic idea of psychopathy as being without conscience or at least lacking sufficient conscience to maintain basic obligations to others if something more interesting turns up.

He's not saying psychopathy is great, he's saying it's misrepresented and he's going to focus on some positive aspects of it. The message is, "it's not as bad as pop culture will have you believe - here is some of the positive stuff". He mentions on multiple occasions interviews with cold-blooded killers and doesn't beat around the bush about the horrible stuff they've done, so I think your dismissal is hardly warranted.

I think he, at the very least, provides a much-needed balancing point of view. Enough has been said and written from the other side of the camp.

Apart from that, you obviously have your mind made up - about several things, in fact - so I won't push it.
You have to be realistic about these things.

I wouldn't say it is psychopathic. :@ Personally, I feel like it is more in lines of haven't I told you so?
Most of these salty responses are to be expected. Trying to convince/explain anything to those salty posts is futile, as people act out of emotion (on the most part), disregarding any reason.
And while you feel for those people (mostly them acting silly/childish/emotionally about stuff that aren't that important), you can't help but look down a bit on them. What else can you do, really?
Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.
