Hardcore & Internet

I got the feeling that because you can play in regular ladder after-death, everybody will make HC :)
Exactly
They have to consider both disconnects, and people with unstable connections. If you have the latter, you don't want to be disconnected every few minute. If the system is done in such way, it could be configurable, or have different values on different leagues.

There is one more thing to consider: What happens when you log back? If you stay where you were, the mobs may have moved, and you may be in a better/worse situation than before. Resourceful hardcore players may use this to their advantage (e.g. unplugging the cable).

If it puts you into town, or the start of the zone, the former can be used for an even bigger advantage (I'm about to die, let's save myself with a quick DC)
I feel you OP. Whenever I get a fax, my internet gets turned off for about 5 minutes... It sucks donkey dick and nothing I can do about it. Yes, i have a splitter and filter installed but they dont do anything. If i die in HC because of this, i'm taking a bat to the fax machine

Yeah the latest patches don't require CD so just full install?

It is a full install, still requires cd for some reason. Maybe I'll reinstall.

Clever thinking but I am sure that there will be measures to prevent that. How it would be done I don't know...
I doubt they will do to much to fix it really...it's just you being unlucky. It would be the same as if you were in the middle of a fight and sneezed...you could easily die like that...or something like your mouse batteries going dead etc.

It is just an unfortunate accident. They can't add anything like immunity or teleports, as they would be exploited.

I think you have to manually copy the mpq files from the cd to the hard drive

then you don't need the cd anymore
Don't think there can be a fair solution for the internet problems and deaths. If they give some sort of protection for disconnects, people will find a way to abuse it to prevent death even if their connection was just fine.

I do admit I lost MANY characters in D2 HC due to internet / hardware related stuff but over the years I learned to handle them a bit better. You should consider them as enemies, though it sounds nerdy, lol.
Pretty sure I have seen where the Devs have mentioned a system that will try to stop HC players dying from lag.

Personally I don't see too big of a problem with disconnecting (aka esc -> exit game) to save your character. You aren't progressing any by doing so. Maybe you just had a bad roll of the dice on monster spawns. You probably will die before getting to exit the game if you were that surrounded anyways.
