Auction House

There's so many of these suggestions I have to assume most of them are either trolls or people who really don't understand the game. Anyway, if you really need a reason for why an auction house would be bad just search through the 4.13*10^14 other suggestions for it made by people similar to you.

There's nothing at all wrong with the idea of an auction house system, or something like it. The Real Money AH in D3 gave the whole system a bad name and that's why so many people here are quick dismiss it. Chris has said, though, that AH will never happen in PoE, at least not in its traditional form. As long as the new system gets the job done, I'm happy. Right now I hate the Trade Chat. It's just "Spam Channel".

Inb4 mod lock. AH threads are a traditional target of mods, and for good reason. There really is like a hundred of them.

Assisted trading, not automated.

That's the difference between the economy in the game right now and the economy in D3.

Take the auction house and shove it up your ass.

is good option :)
Oh, look people resorting to insulting each other again... seems every "auction house" thread ends up the same.
But yeah, the trade system does need an overhaul... just not an "auction house" overhaul. Not sure how they're gonna pull it off, but I have faith in GGG to do the right thing.
Grant us eyes.
I am totally disappointed how immature some people are. And Im talking particularly about nugstash. He sounds like a retard O_o
I am sorry if I hurt your feelings. I didn't want to be rude and I don't want to argue. I want to give you main reason why people need thing like "Trading House"...

First of all - lets stop spreading bullshit like Auction/Trading House is only D3 related. Im sick of this lame argument which additionally is far far from the truth. And the truth is that 95% of players liked and used AH in D3 (I had over 400h played actively ingame). The system was good and efficient. The REAL PROBLEM was: Real Money Auction House. When this system came, D3 has totally fall into "PayToWin" category. And that was one of the nails that crucified D3 ;>

But lets get back to the topic...
One of the most important arguments why sth like Trading house should exist.

TIME CONSUMPTION
What do I mean by that ? I consider myself a decent player. Im not a casual but Im also not a "hardcore player". Although I like to watch other hardcores play (kripp/nguyen streams, etc.) Im not even getting close to their "achievements". this is mostly due to lack of free time. And also my wife is sad when I play too long ;) That is exactly why present "trading system" totally brings me down. I, as well as many many other players out there, just don't have the time to browse forums, look for a good trade, sell my own stuff, try to buy/sell on the chat (which, by the way is one of the worst experiences I have ever had in online games - and I have about 15 years of experience in this matter), etc. I really did try to make sth out of it. Tried to sell some things which in my opinion were decent stuff. Waisted around 1h and sold nothing. Then repeated it couple of times trying to buy or sell sth... Guess my stuff wasn't so good after all... but thats actually not the point. The point is that I wasted couple of hours for nothing. I could spend this time playing game, making some party, throw some ideas/feedback on forums...
People like nugstash should understand that lot of folks out there have lot of every-day duties (school, work, wife, children, house, sports, hobbies, etc.) and we just can't play as much as we want to. And please, do not call us casuals or don;t say "this game is not for you" or "get back to your D3/MMO/WHATEVER" and other retarded stuff like that. Please, consider other people out there and consider the fact that you do not have to use "trading house" if you don;t want to. Some people did same thing in D3 to make game FOR THEMSELVES even harder.
And one more thing... if GGG actually wants a game available only for most hardcore players out there, then it is ok. But please state it clearly at your home page, so people know that this game is not for them. I think it would be fair and square.

regards

That wasn't it at all. The PayToWin aspect might have been annoying, but it didn't kill the game. Many people, myself included, made a could hundred or even thousands of dollars in it. Nothing says "sucker" like getting $212.50 for the sale of some gear that became obsolete a month later.

In a game like Diablo or Path of Exile, the way players get items is to find them. There's a certain satisfaction to grinding a little bit and then finding an upgrade. In Path of Exile, that same satisfaction applies to rolling your own items. At first, you'll find an upgrade with [almost] every new item you see. Then you'll start to find new items every 10 minutes, soon every 20 minutes, then every hour, etc. The amount of playtime it takes to find an item that's an upgrade is directly correlated to the stats on the item as well as the probability distribution for those items.

This is all fine when you're looking for your own gear. Once you introduce an automated globalized auction house to the economy, it becomes a pretty trivial task to sell gear that isn't that useful to you but could be an upgrade to somebody else. The instant that everyone does that, everyone has relatively mediocre gear which decreases the level of difficulty of the game and increases everyone's ability to find upgrades.

The problem with finding upgrades at this point is that it's MUCH more likely that you'll find an upgrade for someone else than you would yourself. So naturally, you head to the auction house to make a profit on pieces you find and you use those funds to purchase upgrades that other people have found.

This creates a feedback loop:

The game gets easier, you find more gear (and statistically, more of it will be "good"), you sell more gear on the auction house, and then you buy better gear for yourself. Rinse, repeat. You no longer find gear upgrades for yourself and finding better gear to sell becomes somewhat addicting (thus your said "like" for the system).

The problem at this point is that everyone is doing that and creating MASSIVE item inflation and reducing the difficulty of the game at obscene rates.

The only solution to combat item inflation at this point is to introduce bind on pickup gear and to make that gear really really good in order to compete with the auction house.

=============================

With all of that said, Demoniq, how much of your gear in D3 was self found? How much was purchased via the AH? I'll bet the more you say was self found, the worse your character is. It's not an opinion, it's just how the game works. The statistical likelihood that you would find a full set of "good" gear in D3 is abysmal.

Before you start talking about how trade interactions are the same script that you've mentioned in other topics, consider that the trade in PoE actually does involve interaction. There isn't anything like that in D3.

Trading system is just a placeholder. There is a new, planned, unannounced system coming in the future. One of the main features mentioned before are public stash tabs where you can advertise items you want to sell and the prices you want to sell them for. You'll also be able to complete trades entirely over the forum.

Creating the Trade Forums was stage one of this. If you go here you can search for items posted on the trade forums. http://poetools.com/market/?type=3

This is extremely useful, thank you

nugstash: go suck a dick, i'm sure you are excellent at it.

fuck the both of you noobs not reading the posts already there and suggesting the worst things imaginable.

The real problem is all the noobs not seeing hundreds if not thousands of posts on this subject already and the mods not locking the threads.
