What you're calling subterfuge is something that you wouldn't see unless you explicitly bypassed the website. It's a fairly vapid news story, but what you're claiming is just bizarre.

The USA raises ~10% of world's livestock. The rest of the world raises 90%
So, if water usage was equal per livestock, we would expect to see the world use nine times as much water as the USA.

If the US total fresh water usage is a little over 1 billion cubic meters (3), and less than 1% of that (4) goes towards raising roughly 10% of the world's livestock (5)....
And the rest of the world is using 9086 (9087-1) billion cubic meters of fresh water (1)
and 33% of the world's world's fresh water usage is towards live stock (2),
Then it means the rest of the world is using 2,998 billion cubic meters of fresh water to raise the 90% of livestock

Divide that by nine to get 10% of livestock so we can compare with the USA's 10% production of livestock

so we have the world using 333.11 billion cubic meters (lets round to 300)
The US is using .01 X 1 billion cubic meters or .01

So the graphic showing 33% usage is telling us that the rest of the world needs
Thirty Thousand times as much water to raise livestock?

If so, then the solution isn't going vegan, it's fixing the way the rest of the world does things. Do people in the rest of the world need thirty thousand times as much water to shower or brush their teeth too?

(5) trying to pull data from numerous sources, including US vs world Cattle data, meat consumption, livestock raised worldwide - seemed to generate between 8-11% 10% is my best guestimate without spending hours. Even if the factor was 5% or 1% the 30,000 figure would still be 15,000 or 3,000 times as high.

Yeah, I agree that it wasn't a small government speech. I thought he was listing some sane things to spend on, but a lot of them. It does beg the question "with what money?" I think higher tariffs on imports, a more even distribution of fiscal responsibility for NATO, and savings through cuts to immigrant welfare explain some of it, but probably not enough.

That said, I didn't expect different. Trump backed Canadian-style single-payer healthcare back in 2000; I never expected extreme fiscal conservatism from him. It's hilarious that he's even considered right-wing; that fact speaks to how hysterical the social justice left has become about witch-hunting heretics within its ranks.
