Vaal orbs are one of the best additions to the game. High stakes gambling. Don't use them on your 10+ ex items, if you are not prepared to loose them.

Sorry OP, but the blame is all on you. Everything about vaal orbs is explained on the wiki page. Just one minute of reading, to not fvk up your 10+ ex items...

ya because everyone reads a fucking wiki before they start a game moron

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
I just use them in trading. I dont see how they would benefit any of my characters.

If i dont know what one thing does first i try it on CHEPA and/or useless item and after that i go and read about them. Only a fool makes blind tests with great items.

Common sense and some brain work is hard to come by these days. Luckily you can always make a new thread and complain about the lack of thereof.

did they add -change item as a possible stat recently? i don't recall having vaal change into a totally different item, only recently it seems. imo vaal should not change base item type. my experience i needed a vaal rare map to flag in my mapping and it changed into another map.

I don't think so. I guess he is refering about the overwriting of a good implicit modifier.

Like adghar mentioned, the item description says unpredictably which should be a good hint for you to not use it carelessly.

You were aware you could loose a mod and you were fine with the situation? Which item has an OP combination of modes that will stay OP when you can take each modifier (but only one) away?

And if it couldn't completly brick your item it would be a free unique upgrade with it's only downside being that changing socketcolors afterwards is f'ing expensive.

"Why use something when you don't know what it does"
and
"you win some you lose some"

are the two most common responses from people who haven't been the victim of a bricked item.
From GGG Business standpoint is what I am targeting here. Vaal orbs cost GGG income.

My Flame Blast 20/20 turned into Vaal Flame Blast 20/20. CRAP
My Fireball 20/20 turned into Vaal Fire Ball 20/20. CRAP
My Clarity 20/20 (yes, I add Quality to auras without being summoner or auramancer, damn I'm stupid) turned into... Vaal Clarity 20/20.
My Cold Snap 20/20 turned into Vaal Cold Snap 20/20.
Those gems take a long time to level... TWICE. The only skill that could have turned into a Vaal Skill but didn't was Discipline 20/20 for me which actually wouldn't be so bad as a Vaal skill. :/ That's the reason I haven't used those orb on m Spectral Throw 20/20. By the way:
WTS clean ST 20/20 (Standard)
Also: a lot of other gems where it just didn't do anything, 2x +1 level, 1x -1 level and sometimes quality to 23.

If going to the wiki is too difficult for you, it's possible to just hover over the orb with your mouse in game. It should be obvious that your item can be ruined by the description "Corrupts an item, modifying it unpredictably." If you're still surprised that your item can be bricked it's your own fault since being able to read is a reasonable expectation.

Anyone reading this doesn't care about vaal orbs being in the game because you haven't lost an item that took you months to obtain. In what other game is it possible via a mouse clik to erase months of someone time and effort to say nothing of the money GGG loses when someone quits the game after they use a vaal orb like I have. I was a paying customer unaware of exactly what vaal orbs did. I used it on an item that at the time of this writing was worth 13 exalt which I myself made into a 6L. I was aware that a vaal orb could result in the lessening or the removal of a stat. I was willing to take this chance. Instead, The vaal orb turned my disfavor into a totally different crap rare. GGG why would you allow something in the game to exist which would be so bad that could make someone quit the game and you lose money? Can you name me a game that is as ruinsome to someone's time as PoE is with vaal orbs? again everyone reading this is in the boat named "Well it didn't happen to me thank god"

Plays a game that has one of the most dense interfaces and collections of items that do very different things. While having one of the easiest to use and up to date wikis I have ever had the pleasure of using.

Grinds to get an item that's expensive, doesn't find out exactly what the orb he is about to use on it does. RNG fucks him. Goes on the forums to complain and have it removed from the game.

People explain to him calmly why its all his fault so he calls them idiots and morons.

You know what buddy? If you leave I doubt anyone here will miss you. Also GGG doesn't lose much revenue from people using this game feature because unlike you they take the probably 20~30 seconds to find out what it does and have the common sense to not use it on things they can't afford to lose.

I am generally a strong proponent of never "victim shaming". Seriously. I hate it when people do that.

But here we have a situation where you knew potential outcome, and rolled the dice. That is on you ENTIRELY.

A vaal orb can turn your 50 Ex item into trash, with yes, a mouse click. Dont click the mouse if you are not willing to take that gamble.

I am dumb founded by this post.
