On the subject of Gold.
" Maybe they are not quite so sure, or one could think that they would have come out and here on the forums and said that a uniform currency will never happen. (Only a thought, and I don't intend to debate it.) |

" I think whether the system is working or not is up for debate, as you can see by the rest of the thread. |

" And even a shitty system can "work". |

I think the main "problem" with the system is that it's different from what people are used to, and people tend to reject drastic change.

" Or people simply realise the superiority of a system that is based on a uniform currency and don't want to reject that just to be different from other new games. PoE is very much like D2 when it comes to trading, so I think it's safe to assume that lots of people here don't think it's a drastic change at all. It's been done before, and compared to alternatives it's realy bad. |

" Agreed, there should be a sticky asking players not to try to act on behalf of the devs.. It's really obnoxious and counter-productive for everyone. Another thing that needs to stop is play-testers responding with "it's beta" to error reports/feedback, assuming that it will get fixed and that your reporting it is unnecessary. Reporting errors, inconveniences, and making suggestions/expressing your opinion about what would improve the game is the only reason we're here, don't tell other players not to even if you don't agree with their ideas. Instead, make legitimate counterpoints as to why whatever they're suggesting should not happen, explain why you disagree. The reasons should not be "Because that's the way things are/that's the way things have always been/that's what (I think) the devs want. " The difference I see is that in a modern currency system (aka paper money that has no intrinsic value), there is an 'authority' (banks/government) that give the currency value. Even if everyone else in the world suddenly decides that paper money is worthless, I can still turn mine into the bank for something else and Im not stuck holding the bag. Now who is the 'authority' in PoE? In theory the players could all agree to treat SoWs as currency but we all know that would never work. There needs to be something more stable than that. The only stable entity in the game is the vendors. So how much value do the vendors assign to SoWs? Well Im fairly new to the game so there might be something Im not aware of but last I checked there was little to nothing of value that could be purchased with SoWs. In other words, SoWs are worthless and without any minimum value (arbitrary or otherwise) they cant be used as currency. P.S. Im new to the currency vs. barter debate so dont take this as me supporting one side or the other; I just felt the flaw in the argument needed to be addressed. P.P.S. Please feel free to prove me wrong. Like I said Im new to the game so if there really is a use for SoWs Im not aware of please enlighten me. |

I'm also fairly new to the game. But I took my first foray into global chat and trying to buy an item. It was painful. I ended up not purchasing the weapon I was looking for because I had no idea if I was getting a fair price. He wanted my only Gemcutter's Prism plus a Chaos Orb. It was a nice weapon, but it was only a level 41. Definitely not an end-game weapon.
So while I don't care how the solution is solved I do believe a solution is desired to help newer less experienced players be able to trade fairly. I understand this game is "hardcore". And I have no issues with its hard stance on the passive tree, respects, and other aspects of character life/time. But getting reamed on a trade by a more experienced player hinders and hurts a community. And that is something that I think GGG would do well to at least make an effort at mitigating. | |
I wonder what would happen if gold was introduced as a "currency", but the vendors didn't accept it so it's completely worthless except for what people assign its value to be.

" You would most likely end up with the exact same problem you have now. It's not about gold vs. SoWs imo; it's about having a currency that actually has value. |
