So I started over an hour late and placed 28th Witch @ half way through lvl 23.

Look out boys! (girls really, since witches are girls! and I guess maybe girls are playing the game too). Some could argue that the Witch competition just isn't big enough and that it's not a big deal, which could be partially true. But if you look at where the top 5 Witches are, they are definitely no slouches at racing.

I truly feel I could have gotten 30 with my new tactics and the loot I had drop for me.

If I could just not be so nervous while I'm playing my clicking would be more accurate too. I wish you guys could have seen me run circles around a portal scroll for 5 seconds...lol.

I'm also not super quick at deciding if something that dropped is better to wear or not and quickly calculating the pros/cons. I consider myself really good at that stuff when I take my time, but on-the-fly-while-running, not yet!

Once those issues are polished, I hope to be competitive for you top 20's! Real soon!

Just a sample, don't want to give everything away! Rings were just 2x Corals w/ Resist on each.
(no, I didn't go Poison Arrow mule to my Witch :P)

Its pretty difficult to make 30 as a Witch, as western doesn't really let you get there, slows down so much at the end. Progression is tough as its difficult to get the hp you need, and then there's how slow you kill the bosses.

I ended at 28.5 in city of Sarn, only made it there with 25minutes left in the race however. With the right drops I think i could make progression worthwhile, but as it is, it seems like running act 1 strongly to get to western first almost guarantees you the win in the Witch category.

sadly, I'm going to have exclude myself from any future races until the desync issue is fixed. I will submit a list to GGG of why/how SC races can be interesting as well (especailly for streamers. i.e. increasing viewership etc), yet makes death via desync... a p.i.t.a. but not a permanent sc__w job, and allows for players to continue and enjoy the experience of racing.

The last two races I've played in, I've died 3 times due to desync and it's not worth the time invested to experience a failure that is 100% not my fault.

to be clear: If I die because of my own stupidity, or I take a risk vs. reward decision that causes my death: I'm okay with that... It's part of life/game.

tl:dr.

Desync issues are ruining the races for myself and many others. Rules should be changed until issues are finally "fixed"

You can definitely combat desync to a significant degree just by out playing it. I desync very often but I know what it "looks" and "feels" like that I can combat it with lightning fast pots and twitch micro movement of my character. I know what mobs to stay away from when it's happening and when to give up mid fight and just move on.

Of course, your desync could be much worse than mine if your ping is very high normally. But I hope you consider what I'm saying, because although it may sound like bullshit, it's possible. The only thing you can't really help is when you teleport back a whole room behind you into a pack and die instantly. Those are the really bad desyncs that I have only had happen to me once. Usually, it's just minor warping and not being able to hit mobs (but they can hit me).

I've certainly come close to dying and if it wasn't for how well I can play with desync instead of against the desync, I would have died every race so far.

There's also the "practical" way to combat it, that's by having high health and using the right gear/passives to supplement it. Armour is extremely strong for these low levels in races, knowing things like that helps.

I apologize if you feel I'm talking "down" to you, I know I don't like it when someone talks to me like I don't know anything. My intention is to just share my advice. I just have had a lot of experience with desync but I find I have been able to overcome it simply by knowing how to build a very strong character and knowing how to react when I feel/see a desync happening.

Good luck!

How fast did you finish A1? I'm pretty new to racing and finished A1 in a bit over an hour, but still had enough time in A3 to get 28, and I bet i could shave 15 min off A1 and several minutes off my A2 to have more time there.
Died to desync at level 4. The frequency (and severity) was absolutely atrocious this time. I actually had a D2 teleport thing happen (get stuck on terrain on the server; free on your client, teleport back when you move too far) for the first time in the year and a half I've played this game (on and off).

Ended up getting to 23 by the time it was over. Nearly died to the same exact type of desync multiple times over after level 20. Nothing like running around and losing HP for no reason.

Died last race 4K exp to level 20 due to the same exact desync.

I'm probably going to sit out the next race (which has already started) due to this issue. It's really not fun fighting with the constant desync. There's been times when I used /oos trying to find out why I'm not hitting things around me and found myself 1/3 of the way across the screen.

The races at abnormal hours have less desync, obviously because it's not peak time by then. While running the latency meter I just sat there watching it read either a solid 63 or fluctuation 47-63 (solid numbers, no inbetween). Regardless of that, it was desyncing like mad; even actually lagging (delays on hits), despite having zero latency spikes. That tells me there's an issue with server load, as when I do lag, the meter goes up.

A real shame that this continues to be a problem. Might try to throw my Killer back in and see if that does anything to minimize the issue, even slightly. (Fixed issues in D2, mostly because that was a UDP focused game; can't do much with TCP.)
I don't mean to sound rude, but I can't help the way people interpret my words.
